1G Side mount IC as auto trans cooler?

Auto guys and gals: Do you see any issues with converting a sidemount IC to a trans cooler for a 1G AWD trans? I have read before that some people have concerns with pressure drop potentially occurring when using two coolers, like 2 B&M's, but want to get your thoughts on using on SMIC. I know of guys that have done it on other applications.

Thoughts?

a oil cooler and an intercooler are two very different components that may appear similar but i would never use a radiator for my intercooler.
it might work, but it aint right.

Do you have any actual data to show disadvantages to converting a SMIC to a trans fluid cooler? You have offered no information in your response. I asked for thoughts. Thoughts have a basis, and a basis is formed with data. "I think this will work" or "I don't think this will work" are fine responses, provided the statement is accompanied with information backing that opinion or fact up.
 
why wouldnt this work??? I mean, if you tig'd it up right and made sure enough air was hitting it then it should cool VERY effectively. Its thicker and bigger overall than a lot of AT oil coolers. I think its a great idea if you have a welder and some time. Plus the trans fluid volume increase can never hurt. Any system with more volume of oil is a better thing. Cooler fluid and more of it total is a win win.
The pressure surely wouldnt be an issue either.

That's my thought process. The more fluid there is in the system, the more there is in the cooler, and the more that's in the cooler, and the longer it's there, the more heat should be able to be dissipated.

I used to run two B&M coolers and the temps were right where I wanted them, <200f. But then I had read somewhere, (I think ATDSM), that two coolers can cause a loss in pressure because the pump has to work harder. Obviously if that is the case, that is a big problem, ha ha.

That's why I wanted to see if anybody has actual info one way or another.

So basically you just wanted answers that confirm what you want to hear. Yeah you could do it, but it is really overkill to have that thick of a cooler. I don't see it being as efficient as a thinner, taller one with smaller tanks that moves fluid thru it faster. Also it would be an awful idea to use a used intercooler for an oil cooler because there is debris trapped inside that you will never get out that will end up in your oil. There is also no need for such a large cooler for the size of transmissions these cars have. We used to install smaller ones than that on large diesel trucks with heavy duty transmissions that were exposed to conditions that these cars never will be.
