Ive been thinking about this lately. I wanna just sell my catback and Y it off right after the cat and have a truck style exhaust tip coming out on both sides in front of the rear tire.

All this after I get my turbo motor in of course :D After I get it rebuilt. :thumb:

A guy here in York, PA had one put on his car by a local DSM shop. I will try to get some pictures on monday.

LOL luke you probably dont wanna know! course you probably dont wanna know what else im planning on doing now LOL. the towing part was fun class 3 hitch and an 8 foot trailer, as for the straight pipes the cat was already cut off when i bought it , and the exhaust towards the rear was already a patchwork special so after an offroading adventure i managed to rip off the muffler and could never seem to get stuff to line up atfter that so i said hell with it and ran it out the side it actually looked about like that 1 pictured

the madman eric!!! :thumb:

i bet it would look much better if it was built into the sideskrts like those new cobras...

Did some pricing out.

RNR 3" DP (O2 Eliminator/external dump, stainless) - roughly $550 shipped
6 ft of stright stainless and one 45* stainless (manderal bent) - $60
3" Resonator - roughly $50 shipped
3" flanges (5) - $30
3" oval magnaflow muffler - $100
hardware - $10
Welding - free cause I'll do it myself.

Around $790 for a full turbo back 3" side exhaust. Not bad imo.
The way I'm setting it up I'll be able to remove my muffler and swap the resonator in for a louder/better flowing race style exhaust for race (or even street). Maybe one day I'll get a cat till then it's a test pipe....heh.

What ya think?

If you are really worried about price, I would think there would be a better DP alternative, or if you can weld, you could always do it yourself.

I am planning on putting a custom dual side exit exhaust on my 95 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. My plan is from teh cat run 3 in pipe back a little bit then weld a 3 reduced to 2.5 Y pipe and run the 2.5 in pipe to both sides and having them exit through the back quarter panals. I'll have to cut a hole on each side and i am gonna put a circular heat shield aroudn it as well. I am just stuck on the placement of the mufflers and what would be better, one or two? I can put on on teh 3 in section or 2 on the 2.5 sections. I had planned to use aeroturbine mufflers since they are very deep sounding. I am going for a deep aggressive sound that is aggressive through the entire powerband and doesn't loose steam at high revs. And ideas or things i need to consider on this setup? I also am gonna rig a flame thrower on both sides for the hell of it.

I say it would be a whole hell of a lot easier to just do one on the drivers side. Splitting the piping and having 2 would be a waste of time as one would flow more. Also since you're AWD you would have to either hang the pipe pretty low or snake it under the driveshaft to get to the passenger side. This would be a problem on stock height cars let alone a lowered one. I scrape my exhaust on this one speedbump every day at work and mone doesn't hang nearly as low as this would. I'm not too sure about having it exit through the side skirt either. I'm not sure but I don't think there's room to do it. A side exit would be sweet though, just like 2 oval tips right before the rear wheel. Good luck! :thumb:

yeah i am thinking it'll be difficult but i think it'll be well worth it and i am gonna try to get the 2.5 in pipes equal length for equal exhaust pressure in the pipes. I wasn't thinking the skirts but more of the rear quarterpanels but i'll have to look under my car, currently it's having the lateral arm, t case and fuel tank recall done and the front fender fixed at the lateral arm separated and made a mess in teh front. And what is a good muffler i should use for both performance and sound? thanks

this is another 1 of those exhaust threads. alot of these lately. Honestly if you really want to do this, dont Y it, go straight out just 1 side and stay 3". It will perform probly better, and be easier. Also, your going to be rubbing your paint out alot even with shields remember, going to not be worth the coolness factor your looking for. Exiting out the back like its suppose to be done is even easier, performs more than well enough, and looks boss IMO :)

I like this guy's custom side exit exhaust:

If it were my car, I wouldn't do a dual exhaust. I think it would look better with just one pipe and an angled tip. You are probably not going to be able to run it to the right side though because as already mentioned, getting past that driveshaft will suck. Good luck with whatever you do though, hope it turns out great.

If you want a deep sounding exhaust that sounds good, you can't beat an ATR.

I Couldn't agree with you more scott. I have an ATR is sounds the best.

if your making your own exhaust id suggest a DYNOMAX ULTRA-FLOW muffler, they have been proven to flow more than a straight pipe

Yeah i read up about that project with the side exhaust and the muffler right after the turbo. What is ATR? and if any of you have heard the aeroturbine i think it sounds pretty decent. Want deep rumble at idle and partial throttle and then an aggressive sound at WOT, not like flow masters though :thumbdown i dont wanna sound like a muscle car. Can you guys think of any way to route the pipe? And i am willing to put the outlets on each side in the rear section of the side skirt. Is there a channel in the rear section before the axles in the back? Might be possible to route it through there and then come up and through either the quarter panel or the skirt.

screw that aero crap, use a dynomax ultraflow. your gonna be dropping the pipe pretty low i think to clear everything.

flowmaster 40 series delta flow, 3inch inlet dual 2.5 out, sounds like the devil himself

I dont want a flowmaster type sound, not my style. My step dad has a 57 chevy bel air show car and i dont want that type of sound. i want the deep sound yet aggressive when ur on it, like the Apexi N1 3in exhaust and i dont htink i'd have room for an oval drum type, i think i'll have to use the canister type muffler. Any suggestions on routing to the side of the car, i can worry about the driveline later, i'm an more concerned about the routing to the side.
