dude...look at my pics...

put it this way...i added a resonator to take it down some (after a ticket in Myrtle Beach) ...thing is still to damn loud....i plan on going back to the rear with it and adding a better muffler...want to be a sleeper again.

Good luck

wow i was thinking of doing a simmilar thing but with a 3" cut out... if i ever get a new car and decide to make the talon full race i would do that awsome side exhaust, you know with the little pice of flashing popriveted to the side skirt, good luck

Not sure how AWD's play into this..but..

On a 2g FWD, you can get away with just two 90^ bends in a side exit.

One for the DP, and one for the last turn before the tire. Much better than a regular "rear-exiting" system.

Whomever had the pics in the gallery, you should have ended it about 6" shorter, used another hanger to tuck it up in that "open area" and welded on a small turndown." Make the turndown barely visible from the outside, and you won't have much problems with it.

If a quality muffler is used, sound won't be any worse than a regular cat back.

Oh ya, it's the only EASY way to fit a full 3" cat back on a 2g FWD.

Magnaflow and Dynomax make good round mufflers that will tuck right up where the cat was.

LOL...we kicked that around too...
2 other guys down here got theres done as well...
one has it ran to the same side i do with an LS1 tip (i think...its square)
the other has one pipe each side (LS1 tips)...neither have the clearance issues that i have...its frustrating and loud :)

im still going back to the rear :p

i love to drive with my windows down...i noticed my ear was ringing the other day after a long trip...scary
and
its hard as hell to talk on a cell phone at 3k rpms ...with or without the window down

...the shock factor is nice when im next to someone though ;)

Bah, performance or comfort. Pick one. :)

Wow thanks guys for the info. I don't know what I am going to do. I want a 3" system but don't have the 700+ dollars they cost. I think I am going to buy the bends from rre, learn to weld and see what I come up with. My car is a daily driver so I need to come up with something to deal with the sound but I will let everyone know what I do. Thanks again everyone.

You can buy everything from JCWhitney. They are cheaper than Summit for this type of thing.

They sell universal hangers as well, you will need two of them. Unless you want to have hangers spot welded to your car.

If you make it from 3" aluminized piping, you should come up with about $250 in parts. Maybe less.

3" stainless is around $350. Make sure you get a nice flex section.

If you get the first 90^ bend with 12" before/after the bend, you won't have to use any extra pipe until after the flex section. Then a 45^. Then you can use about 1', and then your 18"-24" muffler, then about 2' of piping, then another 90^ with 12" before/after, and about 2' after. You will have to fashion a turndown yourself, or buy one (Summit has these for around $8, I don't think I saw them on JCWhitney's site).

You wlil need some flanges, some gaskets, and a chop saw to fab this yourself. A local welder shouldn't charge much more than 100, as long as the pieces are laid out and he doesn't have to do anything other than weld it up.

Hey thanks thats what I'm looking for alright. I priced everything at jcwhitney and it comes to around 340.00 dallors give or take(just a fast put together). I'm going to think about it over the weekend and see what I come up with. dsmu4ia do you happen to know whos car that is?

No, I don't. I think he wrote a post in the last month or two about having a new turbo setup Ben K wrote a reply, so if you search for "Ben K" via username, you might be able to find it. It's a 1g exhaust though.

Has anyone done a side exit exhaust on thier dsm or know where you can buy one? I have seen one where the exhaust exited out of the front bumper towards the bottom underneath the turn signal. just wondered.

i have my o2 dump comming out there. make one, dont be a lamer.

I have already pulled my o2 housing, ported it, and added an external dump. cost about 3 bucks for the pipe. I was talking about the rest of the exhaust. Were would be an easy place to run a 3 inch exhaust out of the front of my car without harming anything?

where ever you find a spot that you like it,the only problem is that its gonna be damn loud because there is'nt really a spot that you can put a decent muffler without it scraping the ground at every slight dip in the road.

I took off my rear section of mty exhaust and had it come out right in front of my back tires....all I have to say is LOUD!! Make sure to have a muffler cause thatr was on stock dp and cat with 2.5 cat back. the way the 2g stock exhaust bends makes it perfect for side exhaust. Because right before it bends to0 go straight back is perfte for it. Hope I was helpfull.

With an 02 dump system at hand, i want to have the dump tube following right out the side of my front bumper, the only problem is i dont know where i can get those metal plate things wiht a 2.25/2.5/3.0 inch circles for the exhaust pipe to come out a little. The "metal plate thing" usually bolts to the bumper via screws but i really can't find any made by any stores. I just dont want to half ass it and make my own. does anybody have any suggestions>

Just get some sheet metal, cut it to desired shape, measure it if you want it a square so it will look good, and polish it up and then bolt it to your bumper. That's one way to do it and it's cheap and if you take your time and do it right, it'll come out good.

Just a suggestion.:talon:

eh... i can fabricate it myself but it takes too much time and effort. i rather put that effort into installing the pipes for the 02 dump to side bumper. anyways, thanks.

I did that to my car as well. All I used was a gas filler neck from an old jeep (I work at a jeep shop), used some of that flexable tubing from the parts store and wrapped it with some heat unsulating fabric. I'll see if I can find some pics.

I was just wondering what the pros and cons of a side exhaust like this one would have. Like is it street legal, any decent performance increasement, and how high is the noise level?

On a turbo it would be ok, I immagine it woud be loud. Besides the fabrication in the bumper, the only problem I see would be in a 2g and the rear o2 sensor, and then anything emmisions related, unless you can cram a cat in there. I might be wrong, just thought I would throw in my input.

It would look like a$$. As long as you still have a muffler somewhere it wouldn't be too much louder. It would probably hang waaaaaay too low though and I wouldn't want to cut up anything on my car. My friend got a ticket for his exhaust scraping the ground and throwing up sparks ... as long as its not that low and not loud then it's legal. Roush Mustangs have side exhaust stock.
