side exit exhaust [Merged 1-9]

Itd be hard to fit a muffler in there. It would be loud. It might leave carbon deposits all over the side of your car. Its definitely not legal in most states. In my state the exhaust has to exit behind the rear tire.

Got a pic of the back? My guess is that is not the exhaust, but it is actually an external dump.

Roush Mustangs have side exhaust stock.

Not like that. Look again, it's coming out the front bumper, not in front of the back tires.

it would sound like straight pipe off the waste gate loud and very annoying for daily driving. If it is a daily driver then no its illegal if its your only form of exhaust. I would say unl;ess uits a track only car, and you dont mind soot all over one side of your front bumper then go for it....

Thats a dump for an external wastegate. On some of the drag DSM's they'll put a dirtbike silencer there. I saw one with a carbon fiber dirtbike silencer.

yes... that "side exhaust" is just the external dump wastegate... that car would probly still have a regular exhaust out the back for the other 3 cylinders...

street legal? no... but, its not any louder until you reach full boost and the wastegate opens.

Besides looking sh*tty on anything but a race car, there's no way that a cat's fitting in that space. Like others have said, the o2's would be a mess too.

HOT gases + rubber compounds = melting.


However, I would think the slipstream from the car moving would evacuate said gasses before they could concentrate to a level that would affect your tires.

I think I would look cool. Better yet run it just behing the driver door like on the newer vipers. I think that is a better spot. Aside from looks, and correct me if I am wrong, the purpose of setting up a side mount exhaust is so you can hear it better. To check for abnormal engine sounds while driving?

I'm not looking for a set up like that really. Want it coming out before the rear wheel on the driver's side. As few bends as possible. Heck, maybe even a dump under the car.

well i dont have any pics of my setup but its a 1g laser (a 91) with a 1.8 and mine exits right in front of the rear tire on the pass side, im running straight pipes on mine so its nothing special anyways had a piece of flex pipe on it but ripped it off one day while i was towing so now it just stops under the car

..thats just looks ridiculous.looks like a street car to. i think side pipe exhaust would look kinda cool only if there is no cutout on the back bumper for the exhaust tip like i saw on some lasers or 2g.

Yea, it be stupid imo to have the side exhaust and still a cut out for the muffler/tip(s) in the rear.
