Should I trade my Cobra SVT for a 1998 GSX?

Hi, i am currently looking for a 1998-1999 GSX and found a 1998 with 136,000 miles, female driven, highway miles, everything looking good with new clutch, stock as hell. I am looking to trade my mustang cobra SVT 1998 with 53000 miles on it, got a couple of upgrades like TB, CAI, and exhaust, clutch, flywheel. My mustang is immaculate in oh so many ways. The guy said he'll trade me and give me 1500 cash back for my car. should i do it or not? my only worry is that it has 136,000 miles and was female drive, oh yeah and also crankwalk. he's asking price is 7995, and my cars trade in is at 8300. should i do it guys or not? i test drove the gsx and it was awesome just not much neck snapping coz of stock everything, but handles well and everything inside works ok. paint is awesome got a couple of wear but not noticable. need a reply ASAP so i can get it or not tommorow. thanks guys.

Well, since it has over 100k, if it hasn't crankwalked yet, then it probably won't.

I agree with diablos991 about the crankwalk. Im in the car business so I have a decent idea what Im talking about. You should want $3000.00 because that is the difference in millage. Your aftermarket parts dont realy effect the price unless someone is looking for that. Again I dont want to come off like an ass but this is how I earn my living so I know the True Market Value. thanks for the reply. hottboost, i already talked to the guy and he didnt want to give me more than 1500 coz blah blah blah... so what do you suggest? or if anybody here wants a cobra to trade just hit me up.

I'm the biggest Mustand hater you'll ever meet.... but WHY would you want to trade a comfortable, fast, low mileage Cobra for a problem prone, high mileage, stock DSM, and only $1,500???

You're going to have to explain your reasoning to me. I hope and pray the its a non-S/C Cobra, because if it isn't I'm coming to your house to smack you in the head.

Your $8,300... minus the $1,500 he's giving you. That's $6,800 for the GSX. I'd have to say that price is UP THERE for the mileage on the car. If its in absolutely perfect mechanical and apperance condition, I'd say its worth it. If there's even the slightest thing wrong with it, talk him down more.

And FYI, female driven is a bad thing if you didn't know that already.

well like i said in the beginning, this is not going to be my first eclipse, i did own a gst dynoed at 280 @ 19psi. I traded that for this mustang that i have now. i came up on top since mine had 110000 miles and this only had 52500. But this one drinks gas, its a non SC so you dont have to come over here and smack me in the head. also i do know how a pain in the ass eclipses are...i use to own one and always had to work on them, i guess its my passion to work on them. i already rebuilt my old motor, did tranny, pretty much everything, i sometimes get pissed coz shit break prematurely but thats the fun in it. maybe im just weird like that i dunno. hows that for my explaination?

So going along with what I said before.. any pictures of this car? What kind of condition is it in? I still think he's asking too much for the mileage. Mine was only $6,000, had a 10,000 mile rebuilt 6 bolt swapped, and 101,000 on the body.

Befor you do that why not sell your stang, and then purchase another eclipse. If you dont have another car just buy a cheap beater untill you find another eclipse. Why give your car away????

Your car is worth $10,380

And a 1998 GSX with 136,000 miles is worth Half of what your cars worth..



And I bet you could sell it for that much too because of the low mileage

There are PLENTY of DSM's you could get for that price

But also if u had $10 grand. you can find somthing cheaper then find a cheaper GSX with no problems.. then have a decent ammount of money left over as apposed to just getting $1500

Hey I would buy your stang for $3000.00 right now . Cobras are pretty fast and will whoop a stock Talon. Plus they are far more reliable at higher power levels. DSM's are really high maintaince once you start to make some decent power.

I've got to agree with everybody here. Keep (or sell) the Cobra, but don't trade it for that high milage GSX at that price. I've got a 96 with less miles than that. AND I do respect the high end mustangs; almost got a Mach 1 for my daily, but then I realized I'd have NO money after modding both cars...

if you havent made any progress with this deal yet then im gonna tell you to sell your cobra private party...then look for a better dsm...i know a fair deal about mustangs...all my friends have em...the 98 is the best year...other then 03...and thats like no mileage...if you do want a dsm dont make that deal...if the dsms a lemon you'll want to jump off the closest bridge...

Take it from someone who traded a great 3rd Gen F-Body for his DSM, I want to jump off that bridge!!

In any case, at that milage, I would be worried about the posibility of the timing jumping. Can they provide you with reciepts on the belt changes? Should have been at least 2 and on its newly installed 3rd.

Your best bet would be to just sale the Cobra to a private seller then turn around and find ya a GSX and pay "cash". You can always wheel and deal a car salesman with the benjamins alot better then with financing. If you cant do that because you dont have another car to drive in the meantime. Just buy a GSX (if you like that one then buy it) then turn around and sale the Cobra. This way you could pay the GSX off and use the extra cash to purchase some toys

I'd do it since your cobra isn't s/c and you could get a modded gsx for that amount I wouldn't get the one your looking at though. In my opinion a 2g look better anyways.

I agree with fulanititoo and the majority of the people that have commented... Sell the Cobra, but do not buy the car you were looking at. It takes a little time to find a healthy, well-kept dsm, but you can give yourself a pat on the back when you do and you'll be satisfied. Besides, if you're smart, you'd sell the Stang and try to get the most money out of it as possible, since dealers are deusches and don't care about aftermarket parts.

Just a FYI: I bought my 1997 Talon TSi AWD (same as a GSX) with 53,XXX Miles on it for 5000. Car was fully loaded and had a few nice mods, no ricer shit. I think that guy is raping you on your trade and the new car, ouch! Thats double penetration!
