Should I trade my Cobra SVT for a 1998 GSX?

if anything u could sell the cobra and buy a GS and have a hole buncha money to use to put into it

ROFL He's gonna go from a muscle car to a GS... He could throw twice as much money at it and not be as fast as the cobra.

besides, as Gs Dewd pointed out (thanks) this thread was opened a month ago. He probably figured it out by now.

Man even though I love my DSM why would you want to sell a low mileage mustang cobra for a stock GSX with high miles? Take the money and put it into your mustang, unless of course you live in a heavy snow area and want the AWD.

yea this thread is dead...well maybe it wouldnt be if he decided to post...
now its almost as useful as the stock DSM parts sitting in your garage...LOL

I'd say grow a joe dirt mullet and keep the Cobra :) A friend of mine has a '96 Cobra and it's dipping into the 11's with just $2000 worth of parts, also running stickies in the back and a big shot of squeeze. Too bad it's tipping the scales close to 4000lbs, correct me if I'm wrong

you are wrong...

no way in hell a 96 cobra is close to 4K... 3500 at the most unless its got a stupidly huge system in it. even then it wouldn't run 11's unless its got a shot big enough to hurt the motor.

You have a very good thing, throw a procharger on that thing and slick it up and its going to move out like no other.

I have a mint mint 1G, and it doesnt give problems but.......I would much rather have a Cobra or a Fbody.

Cobras like alot of gear, I dont know if you know that a 3:73 is nothing, they really like 4:10s or a 4:30 gear. Go ahead and tell me thats to much gear, but im right and once those cars have full boltons and you have that gear in it, thats when they get fast on motor.

Why do you want a DSM?! There are alot of decent priced turbo kits for Mustangs, if you want boost just boost the cobra.

RWD will out launch a awd any day of the weak with a slick, and soem sus mods. And they wont break like a awd will.

Honestly think about it, the cobra holds its money if you put money into it you can atleast get what your asking for it.

DSMs dont get shit, you put all that time and money into them and all the cheap basterd nick picks it and then says part it out so they can get there hands on the turbo or front mount.

Um no

You really arnt around alot of nitrous guys, V8s can handle very large shots on stock motors.

OMG nitrous is unsafe blah blah you cant spray that much, i always hear that crap from people who dont use it and dont understand setups.

My good freind was hitting his Fbody LS1 with a 200shot for over 3 years, and the car was spray alot. The car has even seen a 250shot, its currently being torn down and being built as a blower car.

Mike, was hitting his cobra with a 175 shot, and hit it with a 200shot and took it fine.

Nitrous is good when you know what your doing, PS LS1s have seen 300shots on stock bottum ends. Now thats is over the edge pushing it, but the motors are capable of taking it,and the TQ numbers are huge!

V8s love spray, all you need to do is set it up right and know what your doing

i traded my 96 GST with few mods 130k miles for a BONE stock 90GSX with 153k miles w/ 1k$

i just took that 1k and dropped it into the motor and lil things that needed to be replaced. fuel filter, plugs, wires, rotors, pads, etc... i dont regreat it one bit.. dont have to bi*** about traction probs for awhile now.

id say MAKE the trade.. i disslike musktanks almost as much as i do honduh's... take that 2g GSX.. take that 1.5k and invest in a 6bolt.. and be DONE with it. no CW probs or worries.. my GST walkd at 129k so yes they will still walk after 100k miles. my bros walkd at 189k in his 95gst

Yeah maybe he isnt a BUTSWINGER, how cheap do you think it really is to do a 6 bolt swap?! Be done with what hes buying a 100,000 mile dsm you really think this guy isnt going to have problems!

The cobra has 54,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That GSX is junk compared to a really nice clean cobra with low miles, Cobras hold there value.

Man there is so much after market support for fords its not even funny, ever look at a performance mag for those cars? It will hurt you head all the shops and parts you can buy.

Anything you want is there, and the parts arent to much they are reasonable, I would throw a Prochager on that stang.

wow your gunna actully try to argue with me on something i know more then ANY one here on.

96-98 4v bottoms ends can not handle that kinda power. can some get away with it? yes... can all of them? nope. there just like the GT bottom end but with flat top pistons to raise the compression with the lager CC combustion chamber. the 03/04 is a diffrent monster all together. they are ARP studded with mahle pistons and manley rods from the factory.

so to correctly set it up for that kinda shot you would need to run a SCT maf or MAFia. which is fairly new. they older style maf's are not as forgiving to peggin as the new ones are.
LS1's are completly diffrent then 4v mod motors. they can handle spray quite well. also a 98 is the first year of the returnless style fuel system. which up till now really didnt have a good option for fuel pumps when you maxed them.

also you say V8's love spray. how bout you give me a nitrous kit you set it up on my truck and after i blow the motor the first time i spray it you pay for that too...

v8's loving spray is a pretty genreal statement. which coveres ALOT of v8 motors that cant take a hit of nitrous.

and this is coming from a guy who loves nitrous. my 95 GT had nitrous. but some motors cant handle it as well as others... ford mod motors (03/04 4v and the new 3v excluded) dont take it as well as other ones.

PERIOD

i agree with you on this. the aftermarket is pretty large for the mustangs. BUT not as much for the 4v as the 5.0 yet. every one is still porting stock heads for now. granted they flow quite well. but with the new 03/04 cobra being sold left and right now the value of the older ones droped alot in the last few years.

as for a procharger. they have to many idle issues unless you go with the pro charger blow threw maf. and if you've seen one there complete junk. looks like a piece of exhaust pipe with a maf plate glued on it with RTV. and then painter primer gray. im a big fan of the vortech kits other then the tapping of the oil pan for the return oil feed line

Hum thats weird, alot of Fbodys dont like vortech and only go ATI..........You know what now that I rember it. Your right, Vortech is better to go with on stangs, My buddy aurther is running 9.9s on a vortech setup. But My freind jimmy who has a LS1 wont go with a vortech, he is big on ATI.

And powerdyne sucks LOL just plan sucks

4Vs flow really good, I rarly see people do NA builds on them and its really costly to go NA on a Mod motor.

Thats why you see alot of turbo/blower kits for decent prices theres a better market for them.

:thumb: Im going to hand it to you, I should have looked at my post and added more but I had a english class and a pysh so I was rushing through all of it.

:coy: I was making my statments in general terms, I should have made it more clear and less miss inforumed.

On a side not, Im getting a wet kit for my car:sneaky:

thats definately not a fair trade..or something that i would do...for a car that has almost three times the miles and a chance of crankwalk

As much as I like DSM AWD's......

you're getting ripped off....big time.

Don't trade your cobra for that car....
