Just bought my 1998 GSX! First mods should be...?

BTW...I picked it up for 8500. Good price? I just saw one on craigslist with 123k miles and light mods and they are asking 12k.

finding a nice stock, unmolested DSM is becoming harder and harder these days, and when they are found, you usually pay for them, its all about how much you are willing to pay for the car you desire...

but id much rather pay for a unmolested DSM then buy one thats been beaten and improperly messed with.

Yea...that is what I was thinking. This thing is BONE STOCK....right down to the floor mats. Leather isn't faded and no tears. Just the 2 small dings in driver side door and side skirts faded. Glad to know that I got a good deal.

After you do all the maintaince you can go the free mod path and remove the boost control solenoid restrictor for about another 1-2 free psi.

I run 28psi on my stock internal car with a 50 trim. It depends on the tune and if you have the supporting mods.

I heard 15psi is the max I should go on all stock internals for a daily driver.

The stock internals can take quite a beating. It's the fuel system you have to worry about, yes...15psi would be the max on stock injectors.

uhm no, the stock injectors will go fine over 15psi, its when you get into the 18+psi range is when you want to worry because the stock fpr will lean out bad, and also if there is high milage on the motorwith stock headgasket, do not go over 16psi!! i was silly and slammed it to 20 and went lean and blew the head gasket, glad it was that and not detonation.!:dsm:

general maintence and stay on that !.. dont get lazy with that or your happiness of owning a dsm will dissapear very very fast.. then if you have a couple grand do a nice turbo back.. nice intake 1g bov, if you have a little more do a upgraded sidemount or cheaper frontmount and a 16g turbo will make her move pretty dam good..

I ran 12.9's on stock fuel system with intake exhaust and hahn super 16g and a bigger sidemount.. fuel was fine..

hey man .. welcome to the AWD squad :) i recently got my self on too 98 with 47k on it :) ive been having problems but nothing we cant fix ...

congrats on the acquiring and let the tunning begin :)

Uhm no, the stock injectors will have a high idc when you boost that high. They will actually probably be close if not at 100%. The stock fpr (fuel pressure regulator) isn't a problem, all it does is limit the fuel pressure. In order for that to be the problem it would have to bypass a lot of fuel in order to decrease the fuel pressure. The only way that would happen is if yours was bad. The stock fp (fuel pump) is a problem though since it is limited to how much fuel it can flow. I would bet you blew the headgasket do to knock from running 20psi on stock injector and stock pump. And since the stock gasket is weak it blew, like it should, before it damaged your internals.

Will be updating with pictures soon. Washing car this evening. Should have some pics up by tomorrow. The car has been having its issues. This is what has been found out and worked on so far.

Inner tie rod ends had to be replaced.
Alignment was done.
Had FFtec take a look at it.

Vacuum lines are all good.
Clutch master cylinder is leaking heavily from shaft seal.
(note - my usual mechanic inspected the clutch master and slave cylinders and found no leaks.)
Valve cover and oil cap are leaking
Brake master cylinder and brake lines are all good.
Transmission has no leaks
Transfercase has no leaks
Passenger side axle seal is leaking
CV Boots are worn but not damaged
Radiator cap is extremely worn
Timing belt is good
Acessory belts are good
Harmonic dampener cracked everywhere (FIXED)
BOV leaks at 8-9 psi

So after all this gets taken care of I can proceed with the modding. What a shopping list eh? Any input on what this all might cost me in the end?

If you search on the classifieds you can find most of the parts you need for cheap. I'd get a 1G BOV and adapter for your 2G pipe, valve covers are less than $50 everywhere, Oil cap is probably just the gasket, less the $5, radiator caps are cheap $5, Axle seals are also I believe $15 for both.
