Should I bother tuning with S-AFC ??

I just hooked up my SAFC and I have no datalogger.....is there a way I can start tuning without a datalogger or should I not even bother with it right now.......

anyone have any baseline settings ? am i playing with fire aha?

I have a stock 1g awd tsi with 3" turboback and k&n filter running 15lbs of boost. Thank you

Yeah, just go ahead and change a bunch of things. Doesn't really matter anyways, it's just your engine.

Get a logger, and a wideband. Also, ditch the AFC and get something you can tune your spark timing with.
 
you can use the SAFC to tune but (imo) I would take your car to a dyno to do so but I would invest in a logger or get the dsm link if you are planning on going big, but for what you currently have for a setup your good. I tuned my car with one its not the best of tune but that is also why I ordered the LINK
 
Get a wideband or an EGT and a logger before you start. You could try to tune it right now by feel, but I am in no way recommending that because there is no way to know what is going on in the engine. So, you can be patient and wait for those things now or you can have a little fun now and buy a new engine later.
 
Another Question:

The safc was hooked up to another dsm awhile bak.....Does it still retain those setting froim that other vehicle? Should I goto Initialize (yes) ito put it back to factory settings???
 
I now have a logger one of the best things i could have bought, a wideband is next. I would
also get the logger, so you can at least see what your engine is doing.
 

He's wondering if there is hard memory on the SAFC. Like if you remove the battery, do the settings remain... To be honest, I'm not sure, but I would recommend that you put it back to factory and re-tune for your own settings. I doubt that your setup is exactly like the previous DSM it was on.
 
Do you have a lap top?

Innovate LC-1 is $200 and comes with logging software.
 
Because if you would have searched first you would ALREADY know that you can't blindly play with the safc!

Worst case senario you can get it tuned on a dyno with a wide band. Make sure you write down your settings for pump gas, and race gas. Our car like to be rich more than stoich so tune conservatively. That is the only way to go until you get a logger and egt. However, consider this. The price for a dyno tuning runs about $175 and that will get you any one of the other. And your tune can change. Which means another dyno is in order. add it all up and you can afford both logger and egt for the price of a couple trips to the dyno. Take it from me. I did it the long way. Its doable but in the end you still need the logger and egt. The patient way is to wait and buy a EGT, and logger.
