I am having a hard time tuning my car, I just want my baseline settings until I can get my datalogger to work. and the car sputters when I mash the throttle and blows black smoke (rich). Any help?

A little more Info would help. According to your profile your still on the stock injectors so if your sputtering and blowing black smoke I would check for boost leaks.

Well I wasnt sputtering before I put the s-afc on so it shouldnt be boost leaks. I have everything set with the rpms, karman, and 4yl configuration. the boost is at about 11psi. Im not sure what the "dec air" option does on th afc right now it is at thr ***, low +10, high +10, that was the way I got it.

Ok, so you installed an SAFC and set it to +10% across the board. Don't you think that your settings are leading to you being rich? If you didn't have problems prior to the install, do yourself a favor and switch it back to 0% across the board. Then get yourself a logger and lean out 1-2% per logged WOT pull and adjust as necessary. Remember since you are 1g, you are tuning for NO KNOCK! set your throttle points at 25% and 75%. Leave your "dec air" at 0.

I was under the impression that +10 was the baseline for dsms. My logger tells me it recognizes a modem whenever i try to hotsync it to my car. im pretty sure the plugs are in the right spot, how did you set it up?

I have a palm m100, mmcd, and a cable I bought from someone on dsmtuners. looks like he makes them himself and sells them along with the software. I want to excersise all options before I sent the cabe back as defective.

For base set with safc, dec-air is useless on karmann systems (MAKE SURE your safc setting is set to Karmanns) so dec-air is useless, dont use it. Settings should be at 0 across teh board for injectors until you start logging.

TH point should be low 20-30 % and hi- 65-80%

did you wire it correctly? if you can rule out a faulty wiring job, then its all about the settings.

I used this site to help me the most.

gl!

I always thought that with stock injectors you kept it at 0.... or was that just me?

Let me reiterate for everyone. If you are running stock injectors and no logger, you want to keep ALL settings at zero. No correction for HI, LO, or dec air, anything. From the factory our cars run a little rich at WOT conditions so you have room to slightly lean the car out a little more, but this should ONLY be done with a logger.
