I got a vacuum tester and wanted to put the vac on the BOV nipple.Shouldnt it build a vacuum or not.I read that a BOV stays open until you hit the gas then it closes under boost. So i "wouldnt" be able to test it like this right? I read on here to do that but then read somewhere that it stays open until boosted. Set me straight.

Can someone please tell me how to do a proper vacuum test? I bought this vacuum pump and the guy told me thats probably what i should try but the instructions suck,so how do i properly use this thing and where to hook it up to and is car running when i do this or not. I hooked it up to vacuum port on intake with the car running and it was at between 20 and 21 at idle.So when i push the peddle and hold it steady at 5,000 rpm the vac should dissapear right? Right when i pushed the gas it fluctuated but when i held it at steady rpms the vac dropped back down.I dont know what to do or what to look for.I wanted to use vacuum in the BOV nipple but i dont think it will pressure up there. Thanks

Not sure exactly what your trying to do.

The OEM BOV's open from differential pressure between the two sides of the diaphram. One side is ported to the pressure in the UICP. The other side is connected to the manifold.
On the 1G and 2G BOV, any time the manifold side is about 7.7 psi (16 in hg) lower than the IC side it opens. The rest of the time the spring applies pressure to hold the seat closed.

Depending on the pressure (or vacuum) in the UICP at idle or cruise the BOV might be open and if vented drawing in unmetered air.

The service manual is full of examples on how to use a vacuum tester to check things like the BOV, fuel pressure, purge, and boost control solenoids

Is it a Mity-Vac? If you hook it up to the control nipple on the BOV and produce vacuum, it'll open the BOV. But you won't know it unless you remove at least the outlet side of the valve and watch the disc rod.
