how much knock should i be able to feel?

i know its my lifters, on a cold start, or say 100 degree + start, and i see it pulling like 8 degrees in first gear at 15% throttle and i can hear the lifters over the music, i know thats lifters and not real knock. I have a link and set factory boost to knock. but sometimes I get like 1-3 degrees of knock under certain cruising conditions. should I be able to feel the motor knocking? it still runs smooth when this happens. how many degrees will it take for me to really feel it knock and know its not just the lifters?

if you can feel it your motor is shot. Sometimes you can hear it of its a continuous knock like at a certain rpm. If its random knock you most likely will not feel it though.

Spark knock- detonation is different than bottom end knock. With bottom end knock you can feel and hear and audible noise in the car usually. Spark knock you cant feel at all, but you can possibly hear a slight rattle at 50-100%throttle at 1-2k rpm's depending on when you get full boost.

ok, yea preignition, not bottom end knock. that explains why i can't figure out the problem with our old grand am, when that knocks (monitored) the whole car shakes . so then is there a way to diffrentiate between a true knock and lifter noise? or just replace the lifters and eliminate that variable before any serious tuning?

Yes you can hear detonation, if its bad enough. it soundes like pebbles in a can(dont ask me how i know this i just do)..But under normal conditions unless you have a det can no you can not hear it. Or feel it.
If we are talking about spark knock like im assuming then the most ul be able to feel is the car pulling timing and losing all your power, oh and the famous..BOOM of a rod coming threw the block. As for the lifters change the oil and throw in some lucas oil staboliser i started using this cause mine were the same way even over my subs i could hear them, put this stuff in and as long as i change my oil ever 1500miles and add another quart of the lucas they stay super quite except at startup. Every once in a while if idling forever they start ticking then i just romp on it and they go silent again .. Just beat them up they learn to shut up
