Purchased a JDM motor from a shop for around $1500.00. It was supposed to have garaunteed less than 35k miles on it. They ordered it from somewhere in canada. I purchased it march 21st. They told me I had a 30 day warranty on the motor when I bought it. It took about a week and a half for them to get the motor, then another few days for them to drop the motor in.

I have put 387 miles on the motor since ive had it. dsmlink shows 230+ temps, I got white smoke, and water at the end of my exhaust. I did a block tester, and it came out positive for bad gasket.

1. Should I ask for a new motor, or ask shop to replace head gasket?
2. Would the warranty start day of purchase, or should it start day of install?
3. I compression tested the motor last week and it ran 165 across the board except cylinder 3. It was 145.

What would you guys do in my situation?

Is it a warranty from their supplier or is it the shops warranty?

Honestly, talk to the shop. That's going to get you moving along much quicker than anyone here will be able to.

Also, stock head studs? How much boost were you running?

I am assuming stock studs. I had only had the motor for about 2 weeks. I was only running 9lbs of boost without my hallman hooked up. I had not full throttled it once, was waiting to put MBC on so I could tune it properly.

Whats a "JDM" Engine?

But seriously, there's thousands of 4g63s sitting around in junkyards. I can't believe people still buy into this crap.

I hope that $1500 was for the engine and install, otherwise you've been had.

As for your problem, I would absolutely demand the shop to fix it. They've got a grantee on it and so long as you're within the period, it's their issue, not your's.

JDM= What honda guys think means fast. This is dsm land, jdm means jack shit.

JDM hahahahaha, they lie, its not from japan and if it is, it doesnt mean one thing. What? Maybe a different colored VC or something? idk but the internals are the same. USDM 4g63 ftw!! LOL

It doesn't matter to me if it's from japan or not. I don't care if it's jdm or not. Only think I cared about was that it had same exact internals and everything on the motor was exactly the same. Appreciate your help and kind knowledge though.

well to address your concern i agree, contact shop ASAP. regardless of where the engines from
