shifting hard....

for some reason my car shifts really hard into second gear, and it seems to be tilted toward the driver more than i think it is supposed to be. my friend has a 2g eclipse and it is a lot easier to shift, has way more clutch play, and the shifter is more to the center just let me know why this may be...

take apart your center console with your shifter boot and all, and check your linkages. See if everything is attached properly.
