okay so about a month ago my one of my shifter cables had broke and i drove the car around in second gear to get it home.then i searched forever to find new cables and i found them on extreme psi.com ordered them put them in and the cables are too long i double checked to make sure they sent me the right part and they did
i dont think there is any adjusting on the cables are there? or does anyone have any ideas

ive seen the 1gs have the adjusters near the shifter im thinking about cutting the cable back there and welding in a nut and threads to adjust it but that seems like alot of work
any ideas what im doing wrong here?

This sounds like a similar issue I ran into recently, just the other way around. I bought a set of cables from someone on here to find out they were too short for my 98 GSX, I noticed that the section for the engine bay appears shorter. I was told they were out of a 95 or 96. It seems most people believe that all 95-99 turbo cables are the same, I am not sure if this is the case. I made a call to the dealer, and was told that 95-early 96 is a different part number than late 96-99.

So it sounds like you may have newer cables that are too long for your 96. Is your car an early 96?

The cables on the left are the original ones out of my 98. You can see on the set on the right that the metal crimped piece is located closer to the tranny side of the cables. This prevents the rubber grommet from reaching the the firewall (it would be dangling in the engine bay).

And to be honest I don't really see how these cables could be different, perhaps I was told wrong by the person I bought these from, perhaps it was not from a turbo model at all. Either way, the dealer did tell me the cables had different part numbers, so who knows... I was told by someone else that they thought I may have non-turbo cables here on the right, I may try to do some comparing to see on my 99 GS. I am going to be annoyed to find out I was lied to about what these cable came from.

Hopefully someone else can provide some useful info here.

i know when i called the dealer they said there were four different cables so i thought it was strange that the website had one cable that would fit them all :(
i had ordered one from the dealer but they had no warehouses witht he part in stock
my talon was made in April 1996

I have some shifter problems it doesnt want to go into 1st gear and it likes to jump to 2nd gear when i shift from 3rd to 4th so i'm assuming i either need new bushings or all new cables?
First check that shift cables are bolted down and don't move on the support bracket near the tranny. Other things you can do:

1) install the skateboard bearing mod on tranny cable end bushings (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...wheel-bearings-merged-12-6-a.html#post1822461).

2) install the symborski bushings on shifter plate (http://www.machv.com/symshifkit1.html)

3) replace the select lever shoe: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/mai...t-fifth-gear-grinding-help.html#post152266167

4) To further reduce shift play (only by a tiny amount though) replace the interlock plate bolt (the end of it wears down from shifting). Since this bolt is on the outside you can do this while the tranny is still on the car but make sure you DON'T TOUCH the shifter while this bolt is out.

@ luv2rallye well i ordered the cables and i got an email about ten minutes later saying the warehouse can not ship the part because they dont have any in stock :( so i am back to square one
do you know of any other oem sites ? im going to start hunting again

Have you tried JNZTuning yet? I believe I got mine from them a while back. I'd offer you my old ones if they fit which apparently they do not.

New cables are extremely smooth to shift. Continue the hunt.
