I just had my transfer case replaced and while driving back home from the mechanic's everything seemed perfectly fine. Car shifts smoothly and I have no complaints but when I was parking I put the car in reverse and thats when I realized that it is extremely difficult putting it in reverse and also taking the car out of reverse. It feels like there is a lot of tension when putting it in or out. After searching the forums it seems like I may have to adjust the shift linkage but I'm wondering if it could be anything else that I may of overlooked.
Thanks in advance guys:thumb:

check out the shift linkage first, and then see if you notice any other symptoms or if adjusting the shift linkage cures the problem. could also be a clutch hydrolic problem, a clutch, or a transmission problem.

I checked out the linkage today and I really don't see anyway of adjusting them. What I did notice was that one of the rubber grommets on one of the cables was all crubmled up and pushed up the cable. Not sure if that could mean the cable is damaged or not. I searched on how to adjust the cables and I really didn't find a specific how to.

check your reverse light switch.... i had the same problem when putting the car in reverse.. found out it was too tight.. just loosend it up and it went away

(you never know maybe something as simple as that)

Reverse light switch? Is that something like the blinker fluid? Or are you being serious?

my built tranny had this problem when i first got it,

some time the reverse switch hangs down to far so you cant get in to reverse

you have to take out the revers switch and put a washer under (as a spacer)it then put it back on and it will be good! :thumb:

the reverse switch is on the top of the tranny near the pass side, really easy to get to

Where is the reverse light switch located? The shift linkage has a lot of movement where the rubber bushings are on the trans. Im debating of either trying to put some skateboard bearings see if that helps or just go out and buy new cables all together.

The reverse switch is left of the shifter cables, if your looking at the front of your car. Also, for the worn bushings. I had issues going into 1,2,5,R. After I put the bearings in there, no problems.

Well I think the problem was that I had air in my line because its much easier to shift into and out of reverse now. But I'm still a little worried because the trans still sometimes pops out of first. Which leads me to believe that maybe I have a broken clutch fork.

If you have a broken clutch fork then you can not eve shift, because the clutch will NEVER release LOL.

unless you ment shift fork, but i do not believe that woudl cause it to pop out of gear
