Hello all, I am looking for some guidance. Here's my situation:

The rubber surround on one of my shift linkage cables (underhood) has worn away. Anytime I go to shift in any of the down gears (2,4,R), the cable pushes against the linkage, but because there is no rubber cylinder around it, the cable just moves out to the side rather than pushing the linkage actuator. It's tough to explain, but hopefully you guys know what I'm talking about.

Any thoughts on how to solve this problem? Is replacing the linkage as a whole the only solution? If you guys could point me to a tech article on replacing the linkage, that'd be awesome! Thanks!

If you're talking about the rubber bushings inside the circular ends of the shifter cables, there is an easy fix for that.

Take a look at my posts (specifically #20 and 28, but read the whole things as it's good info LOL in this thread - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272259

Edit: Here's the link for the brass shifter bushing set in that thread - http://www.speed-source.net/products/shifter_cable.htm

No, it's not the bushings. It's the rubber accordion-style piece that surrounds the cable itself. Thanks for the help anyways!

I'd try either:

A: Replacing the old worn out parts (recommended).

or

B: Using some rubber fuel line or something similar and experimenting until you get the right length and diameter to do the job properly.
