So I called Shep Trans because I didn't see any DSM trans rebuilds on the site and apparently they are only gonna be offering their stage 3 rebuild. So I'm shooting for roughly 400whp and was wondering what trans builder would you guys recommend. I saw Jacks and the guy from Shep suggested TRE? I believe. So just from you guys personal experience what would you suggest? My driving style will more than likely be kinda aggressive as I plan on just making it mostly a weekend warrior and doing some autox.

I went with jacks . Price wasnt bad and they are only two states over to the west of me. It took roughly 3/12 to 6 weeks from the time it got shipped out. They had issues with some of my hard parts so I upraded to stage 4. As far as looks looks great and as far as testing it out havnt had the chance yet . My car is completly tore down at the moment.

Jacks also. Went with 2.1 value w/4 spider diff. and it was only about 3 weeks on my tranny. Around 13,000 miles with no issues. Some do recommed TRE, but when I tried to contact them I got no respond back after days of calling and emailing. Not saying this will happen to you, just saying it made my decision easier.

Thanks for the feedback. Gonna be a tough decision LOL. So I'm not a transmission expert but if my 2nd gear synchro went out and it grinds shifting, I'm grinding the gear away correct? If so then I should make sure I get a rebuild with new gears huh?

Edit: A little off topic but does anybody have the dimensions for FP intake pipe or know where I can get them? I plan on making a carbon fiber intake for my turbo and I really like their pipe. If not I'm sure I can make it no problem.

I'd get ahold of Tim Zimmer...another good option.

Are you currently running their tranny? I'm gonna be stuck deciding for a while it seems LOL. Just like I'm stuck deciding on parts for my engine.

I'm a happy TRE customer. Trans shifts like butter and the price was very reasonable.

How do you like your stroker? I'm debating on stroking mine but I'm not sure. Eventually I see myself moving down the west coast towards San Fran, Cali and plan on driving it from seattle to that area.

I am not (I have an auto built by myself) but I know (personally) many people that have had their trans built by Tim and are very happy.

TRE does great work, but is a pain in the ass to get a hold of.

Shep has built 3 transmissions for me and all of them were perfect. (previous cars)

Jack's I have no experience with.

I've been running a Jack's 2.2 Super HD for a couple months now, VERY happy with it, it's taken every bit of abuse I've thrown at it so far.

All the way in Alaska shipping may be a good factor for deciding.
I've stuck with shep but that's because he is just one state away from me. I've heard good things about all the others listed TMZ, TRE, and jacks. All three have tempted me. :)

I went with tre. He is a little difficult to get a hold of but he helped me out a lot with my trashed tranny. Tranny didn't take too long to be finished and it looks amazing. Great packaging job and he even cut me a deal on a more expensive part because the cheaper one was on back order. Still haven't installed the tranny though because of a complete engine rebuild. Good luck. I'm sure all will do you a good job.

I called shep trans the other day, they said they are currently not doing any rebuilds, but will start again in late fall. He never said only stage 3, but than again, I never asked.

I sent my tranny out to Tim at TMZ on 8/13 to get a stage 3 kit put in and he just got back to be 9/27. I new he was busy with a back log of around 6 weeks so this time frame did not surprise me. I will keep you posted on when I get it in and how it works for me when i receive it (should be here by the 10/11 because thats when he is leaving for Australia). :hellyeah:

Working on it dude! I am easily backlogged to the end of November currently and am overloaded. I will be gone October 12- November 5th for work and family requirements.

Not to be a thread jacker here but I have a complicated tranny question. Just took whole tranny apart to replace center diff, cleaned everything up real good, shimmed it best as possible, noticed the outer most bearing was sorta rough on the intermediet shaft (pressed on bearing on end of shaft closest to 5th gear cluster/end plate, not the one closest to the bellhousing) the bearing was sorta pitted, I thought "ehh, it'll be fine" well, when I get a lil load on the tranny I can hear it whinning. Has anyone ever sucsessfully replaced this bearing with not removing the tranny from the engine?

I can totally picture tearing into the tranny that far as the clutch and the Tcase will hold things in place. The part I'm weery of is when I get to that bearing that's pressed onto the shaft, how the hell am I gonna remove and replace it while the intermediet shaft is still 1/2 way installed in the tranny? I mean, using a press isn't a option if I deceide to do this trick.

Am I totally effed on this deal? I need a dsm tranny wiseman to giive me the best possible advice. Should I just buck it up and pull the tranny out agin to put it out on the work bench like normal, or is it possible to replace the outer most intermediet shaft bearing with tranny still in car? Its discouraging because the center diff replacement went together perfect, tranny shifts smooth as butter in all gears, no access "floppyness". Tranny is good, just whines at certain times and I know its from that one and only pitted bearing in there.

Can I get some advice from some experienced tranny vetrans here? Thanks a million guys

Take the transmission out, tear it down and repair the problem properly. Bearing MD736638 is your replacement.
