So my next big mod on my list is the transmission! I honestly don't know why I'm asking but I always like to get advice and opinions :D Either get a stage 2 Shep Trans FWD or convert to AWD. I'm having trouble finding wrecked gsx's or awd tsi's or really cheap ones. I've seen some badass FWD launch mean with shep and slicks. They both cost roughly the same IDK guys let me know! :hmm: Thanks! :talon:

Ryan are you going to be doing the swap or paying the shop to do it? Cause im pretty sure with all the Fab work that needs to be done a shop will charge more than what the Tranny and Slicks are going to run. But personally go AWD. Or be a fast highway car basically

Car is not DD and I'm only doing drag racing! I've seen some fwd cars here with stock transmission on Hoosiers launching mean! If I do go awd I'm doing the work myself. I heard its not a lot of fab work alot of it bolts right up?

Damn, I'm thinking about doing the same thing..but living in Cali and finding cheap wrecked AWD's is no easy task. I saw a '95 AWD Talon at a local junkyard the other day with a COMPLETE rear subframe including LSD diff..minus transmission and transfer case :(

Swap! Fwd isn't fun to me. I just see it as basically you can only roll race with it on the street. I like racing from a dig. That's a drivers race. Roll racing is just smashing the gas and seeing who goes faster LOL. Just my opinion. I love launching my awd talon. It's so fun

Awd is a major pain if something goes wrong and I have seen plenty of fwd cars smash Awd off the line it's all about the money it's not just what tires you run the real deal is in suspension...everyone expects a Awd car to launch I'd say stay fwd and show people how a fwd can launch

IF you know how to launch an awd car it will get off the line faster every time than a fwd with the same specs. Some people have no idea hot to launch an awd car.

Clearly. That's why there's so many fast fwds. An awd will smash a fwd off the line.

On street tires? Sure. But bring slicks into the picture (and the OP is talking about a drag only car) then that goes out the window. There are plenty of FWD DSMer's (and keep in mind that the FWD DSM's aren't pushed nearly as hard as the AWD side of the house, because we have the AWD option) that are running 1.4-1.7 60's. At the very top of the pack, Kiggly (FWD) and Shep (AWD), both drop 1.2 60's.

^^^^ I would take AWD and RWD with slicks in my FWD off the line. LIke I said earlier in this thread its a PITA azz going and swapping tires at the track and then theres the times on the street you want to get on it a bit...1-2 gears are worthless and some of 3rd. Sorry Id just get fusterated driving on the street and having a quick track car and a street car that could do nothin

Keep in mind the AWD weight and additional drag are going to require more hp/tq to achieve the same times as a fwd 4G63T. Until you break into the 350+ Hp range you are better off with fwd. Fwd pulls harder in the top end. Proper suspension, weight balance and tune for launch control with electronic boost control will dramatically bring life to a fwd.

Be very cautious taking the advice of people quoting the timeslips of some of the fastest in their class. Not saying that FWD can't achieve fast 60' times, just that 99% of the time, people don't have the resources that the record setters have at their discretion. That being said, it's hard to argue against AWD. But if you're really looking to set records, and have tens of thousands of dollars and sponsors to send you parts, look at the bulk of the timeslips and do a little reality check.
AWD for most people is going to be the quickest times at the track we will ever see...

Nothing in its class launches like a built AWD 4G63T. Just do the swap right with fresh parts. You will likely need to rebuild the rear end and ditch the 2 piece driveshafts for a one piece. You will also need the AWD fuel tank among other things

A fwd can be setup to launch very well. I have had my share of fwd cars and have been able to launch them pretty well. Seat time makes a world of difference be it awd or fwd.

Everybody is going to hate on you for having a FWD, so in that case build it up right so you can show the AWD guys what's up. :D I personally have had the Shep Stage 2 FWD for years and I love it. With the right tires you will be able to launch just fine if your a good driver. I'm on 31-32 psi on pump with a 6262 and I don't spin too bad on 255 street slicks on a 2nd to 3rd pull.
