shaft play on new turbo?

in and out or side to side?

Is this turbo installed yet?

You have to remember that the bearing run on a thin layer of oil. Once the oil drains down there is nothing to take up that gap.

When you say play, in what direction and how much.

Use a dial indicator, not guesstimation please.

I bought a used 16g and was wondering the same thing because it would move side to side a tiny bit and if I really put pressure on it it would move a little more. The turbo has 4,000 miles on it. I went to the local speed shop here and they had two brand new 16g's on display so I checked them and they felt exactly the same way mine did.

side to side is fine and doesnt really effect anything.

in and out means you're doomed.
