Well I bought my EVOIII 16g a few months ago and I finally got my car on the road today. Well a friend from the board noticed that my turbo had alittle bit of shaft play from side to side. I was wondering if this was normal with a turbo to have alittle bit of shaft play. I always thought even alittle was bad.

When new not installed turbo will have some play because there is no oil inside (not common tought).

Now some play is okaslong it's not back/forth play.
If in doubt contact the seller

even new turbos have a LITTLE side to side play. I mean a very little bit. That is fine and normal. It definitely shoudlnt have any in and out play though. I was worried about the same thing when I bought my first turbo :thumb:

well alright cool. I was just really worried becuase I was like damn I already have shaft play. But this makes me not worry anymore. :thumb:

Screw that. Beat it to hell. That is why you bought a turbo wasn't it??

A journal bearing turbo will aways have some shaft play. Why? A thin sheet of oil needs to pass between the journal and the shaft. The turbo shaft "floats" on this thin sheet of oil.
