When i bought my 1995 AWD talon (5spd) it had a bad wheel bearing. As with most 2g's the cv shaft was frozen in the knuckle. So I bought a new wheel bearing and knuckle from the dealership, and a new cv shaft from NAPA. After installing all of this I drove it around the block a few times and it rode great. I was dumb and launched it a couple times and got on it a little, but nothing too harsh cause I didn't want to break it. Well, no such luck. It seemed to have a bad clutch. It would still move but as soon as i tried to give it any power, RPMs rose and car would continue going same speed. So I figured #### it, and put in a new clutch since this one had 110k on it and prolly needed a new one anyway.
Skip ahead a couple weeks and I finally got the clutch put in and drove it around the block a few times (being very easy to break it in) and it rode perfect again. Pedal needed to be adjusted, but it still worked fine so I decided that I would drive it to work. Drove fine for about 2 miles till the highway, still good for about 10 more miles on the highway (didn't really get on it to pass anybody) and when I got off to 28th street and tried to take off from the light it did the same thing it would before I put the clutch in. I could take off and feel that it engaged a little "easy" and when I tried to give it any throttle it would slip. So I limped it like a mile or two to work and thought about it all day long. I just figured that I would limp it to my buddys house which was just a few miles away and make sure not to get on it so that it wouldnt' slip and ruin the new clutch.
Well once I got it to his house we jacked it up and fluid started leaking all over the ground. Seems that the new cv shaft that I had put in (pass side, shorter shaft) popped out. I was like ::whew:: easy fix. So I popped it back in and went on my way back home. I drove about 1/4 mile down the road, still in, and turned left and car drove fine. Got up to 55mph and drove for about 2 more miles and when I came to a stop sign and tried to take off, same dang thing. Limped it back to friends house to find that it popped out again. Stretched out snap ring on the end of the shaft (thinking maybe that just wasn't tight enough), popped it back in and after same drive distance as last I pulled a U'ey and felt that it popped out again. Now it just sits at his house and I have no idea what would make it do this. After thinking about it, clutch wasn't needed after all, shaft just had popped out while i was driving it and that made it feel like it was "slipping". I did a search and found nothing. Shaft doesn't just pop out with ease after we slid it in, had to pop it out with a pry bar to get it out again.
So now im stuck and don't know what to do. DSM gurus your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
