I have a 1998 GSX and I am trying to get the keyless entry working. I have researched and read all the appropriate threads on here.
I got this fob http://www.ebay.com/itm/111208145503?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT. Then I jumped pin 1 to 4 with a paperclip, it cycled the lock unlock sequence which I guess verifies that it is in "learn" mode. I click the remote 3 times and then nothing. It doesn't cycle again and link the fob to the car. I pulled the inside driver rear quarter and was able to verify that the keyless control module was there and hooked up. In a couple of the threads I saw people mention the hood switch causes a lot of problems, well mine is missing all together. Attached is a pic. Is it possible to set up a fob with this part missing? Do I have to replace it or is there a way to trick the system into thinking it's closed all the time?

I have my alarm hooked up and the hood switch just laying in the engine bay. Doesn't effect alarm at all!
It seems it does not effect the alarm but I've read a couple of places that the keyless control module will not learn unless all doors are registered as closed. I have no idea where my switch is or even if it's still in the bay somewhere. I guess I'll have to jack it up when I have time. If anyone has an input please chime in. I'm sick of opening my car from the passenger side to disengage the alarm.

I don't know when I setup mine it was the same way just laying in the engine bay. Did you find the wires to your hood switch? If so I have a extra you can try let me know. And LOL I know your pain bro! I had to do the same thing before I got my replacment fob haha

I have not managed to find the wires yet, who knows the switch may still be floating in there. Thanks Dsmkauai, if I end up needing one I will hit you up.

So how come you have to use the pass side to turn alarm off? Does your key not work in drivers?
The key unlocks on the drivers side but does not disable the factory alarm, so when I open the door I'm greeted by the angry alarm horn. The day I got it my wife and I rode home from the store with the alarm going off because I had not yet figured out that turning the key on the passenger side turns it off.

Oh ok then you need to fix the switch for the alarm on that side. That's why your fob won't work. I had the same issue haha. First check and see if the switch fell off the back of the key cylinder.

Oh wow thanks! I will check that out as soon as possible and post results. I need to take apart the passenger door as well. It's not opening from the outside. From what I understand that is a result of the fork shaped hinge not depressing the door switch correctly. Time to tear some stuff up.

Id like do this to my spyder too. kind of a pain to unhook the hood pins then unlatch the hood from the inside. I have a CF oem hood. and for some reason I wanted to check this on my spyder and the switch was there but it wasn't plugged in & my fob keys worked fine

So, from what I understand what I am looking for is a white tab with a wire coming off of it that is supposed to be hooked up to the back of the lock cylinder? Is it held on by a clip? If the clip is bad is there a common ghetto fix for this or is it an easy part to find? Thanks to all for the help, I'm going to jump into this tomorrow. I'm also going to apply the bolt fix on the passenger door actuator because that door won't open from the outside.

Got the passenger door fixed, it now opens from the outside. Instead of the bolt my cousin just bent the fork shaped rod a hair and it functions perfectly. On the drivers side the security clip is missing. I found the 3 wire clip that attaches to it. It's wires are black, green/white, and green/yellow. Can I just ground out one of the greens so the ecu always thinks it's locked? If not does anyone know the part number for that security clip or where I can get one?

Nope my cash us on the eBay fob remote if the dash singals doors are open its not the door switches. Trunk snd hood both closed sensors but my hoof switch was unplugged with I programmed my 2 factory fob remotes at the same time.

These are not my instructions I found these along time ago on here and I saved all the steps. But you need the actual factory fob keys remotes before you even start. Why would you trust a ebay turbo or a ebay anything.....just my thought!!!

1.Turn the igition off.

2. Ground pin 1 of the data link connector (black 16-pin connector under dash driver's side). Pin 4 of this connector is a ground, so placing a jumper wire between pins 1 & 4 will accomplish this. Grounding pin 1 tells the system you are getting ready reprogram it.

3. Close all the doors.

4. Turn the key to acc, then back to off. The power locks will lock/unlock. The system is now ready to be programmed.

5 Press a button on your key fob 3 times.

6. The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.

7. If you have two keys fobs, press a button on the second fob within in 1 minute of pressing a button on the first one 3 times. Both must be programmed at the same time.

8. The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.

9. Remove the connection between pins 1 and 4.

Well I guess I'll grab a factory remote. Kauai if you could provide me with the part # that would be appreciated.

Fix the door thing first then I bet that fob works!! Also I have a extra one in my parts car if you want it let me know. And a eBay turbo is a whole diff ball game compared to buying a remote haha. Not all eBay is bad my friend!

First I will try installing the switch, thanks to Kauai. Then I will post results. If that doesn't work I'll try a genuine remote. I also have an extra keyless control module I could try.

So here is an update. Here is what it looked like behind the door, it had no plastic security clip

I installed it, kind of a pain because you can't really see what you are doing. I got a great tip from this old thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/2g-power-door-lock-issue-aftermarket-door-locks.433278/ The important thing is that in the clip the the line indentation is going up and down. I had to do this twice because on my first install the clip wasn't lined up properly. Here is a terrible pic with the clip installed

The current result is slightly better. I can unlock my door with the key from the drivers side now and my alarm doesn't go off and that is a huge plus. The bad part is the keyless still won't program. I have an extra keyless control module laying around so maybe I will swap them to test that. I also could break down and buy a proper factory remote. If I make anymore progress with this I will post the results.
