Well I posted a couple days ago questioning the reliability of www.manualcd.com because I had placed an order and haven't heard from them. I just wanted everyone to know I did hear from them and it seems as though they have been working really hard at getting a few updates implemented proior to sending out the disks.

Their reply....

First I must apologize for the delay's and lack of response to emails... I haven't posted, IM'ed anyone (some of my friends are pissed!), and even stopped working on cars and house stuff for about 2 weeks now. My focus was to have an updated CD ready by the 31st of October, with some "simple" updates.

However, that turned into updating a lot of mistakes and problems with the CD's, the manuals on the CD's, and the ease of use that I have always wanted for you to have. I learned how to make installers, patchers, and programs for doing the things I wanted to do. I wanted it truly 100% cross platform compatible (even bought an older G4 Mac to test on). I tested on win95, 98, 98se, 2000 and XP, as well as two version of Linux which I configured just for testing on. It has also been tested on Mac OS X 10.3 and Classic 9.2, both of which I found that the links from different manuals did not work on older CD's.

All of this took time, more time than I thought, but the rewards are great! I'm proud of the newly updated CD's, they now have these fully functional features;

UPDATED:
************
***WinCAPS (parts search)***
- Compiled a very recent source (8-2004).
- Had to extremely compress with modern ZIP/Flate to fit, since it alone was 550mb!.

***GUIMenu system***
- Comes up with your autoplay feature, easy to use.
- Really slick and checks winversions to run proper readers and install types.

***NAVIGATE.PDF***
(Main manual that provides an index to all the manuals on the CD).
- Fixed errors, recompressed, updated notes, links, and made it 100% cross-os compatible.

***Service Manuals (updated)***
- Updated and fixed links, pages, added some content.
- Reprocessed with newer PDF formats for size and bug avoidance.
- Added descriptions and fixed indexes for better searches (with 6.x readers).
- Fixed reversed pages in the M/T overhaul section, added proper index to it.

***CD Layout***
- Updated location of files for faster load up and read access.

ADDED:
************
***Other Manuals***
- 7 Workshop manuals on transaxles and even a manual on how to use the service manuals.
- Stealth Technical Information Manual (3/S CD only) - Thanks to Jeff Lucius.

***Help Files***
- Updated and added help files with current information.

***Modern Installers***
- You can now easily use the CD from the CD drive with the menu that comes up.
- You can choose to install it to your hard disk.
- You can choose what to install (if you have Acrobat, or if you don't want WinCaps, etc).
- Nice icon's show up where you want them for quick access from start menu or desktop.
- Uninstaller for the CD - runs very quick, very useful feature for clearing up space.
- Uninstaller for WinCAPS - none of the installers write to the registry, so works great now.

***Newest Acrobat Readers***
- Hesitated to use these due to bug's and incompatibilities with older manuals, but once they were reprocessed (with 4.0 compatibility still), the manuals actually print and view much better, not to mention the search function is 100x better with Acrobat 6.0.x.
- Will detect and install correct versions of Acrobat Reader for different versions of Windows.
- Included (and tested) are 2 versions for Mac OS X (10.3) and Classic (9.2).
- Tested with 2 different versions of readers with Mandrake and Knoppix Linux.

DELETED:
************
All of these new function took more and more room, which is partly why I had to reprocess the PDF files to make them smaller (no loss in quality except for NAVIGATE.PDF). The CD's started at 678mb, and both ended up at 692mb (at 693-4, Mac OS X compatibilty breaks for some reason). I had to use a commercial ZIP packager, modern installer, and latest acrobat pro versions, and the CD's still ended up at just over 700mb (which would not fit on a single CD).
Some older HTML things had to go, but I promise, no one will miss them (unrelated files from 1998, flyers, and modifications for products that no longer exist. For Mac Classic, you will need internet access to finish the Acrobat Reader 5x installation. I'm very happy that we did not lose any functionality or archives, but we were able to add everything and still have it fit.

So please accept my apology for the delay's, I'm sure you will be happier than ever to recieve this new CD in the next few days.

If your email was not answered by this email, please respond to me, and I will will promise to answer it quickly now that I'm done with the updates, and know when they will ship.

On the To Do list, is to update the website, and provide a patch for older CD's that people have ordered in the past. I will also try and host the newest WinCAPS as they are provided to me, as free downloads.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding,

Sincerely,

I know my original CDs have saved me their cost many times over without even counting all the other people I've helped with pages and looking things up for them. You won't hear me complaining about cost even in jest.

I just hope we don't see any members start copying them and selling them on eBay like so many people did with the original versions.

Steve
