I am having a hell of a time trying to get my stall to work with my 6bolt motor w/ the W4A33 (2g) transmission. Long story short, I'm on my 5th time taking the transmission out. I am a auto newb and am surprised that all I have done so far has not worked. I can do a manual trans quick as shit and get it right the first time around every time, but this automatic has me  big time. Before I did this stall I had a restalled stock converter and it worked perfectly, I put in this 9.5" stall from IPT and it works perfect for a total whopping 3 miles and 3 very VERY nice launches, then I put it up for the night. Next day I get it ready for the track and get out of my drive way, and as I go down the street no more than 300ft~ I get up to 3k rpms and I hear this skreetching/grinding noise, so I instantly turn the car back around and put it in the garage.

1st and 2nd time around with this thing I had no knowledge of there being spacers that go on the flexplate/tq and there were none on the car. So the tq was rubbing against the t-case and the fp bolts were rubbing against the starter plate. First time I took the stall back out and sent it back to John @ IPT. He looks at it and says everything looked perfect and ships it back to me. I gave my transmission to Jason Wier to install a overhaul kit in my trans to freshen it up and tell him to check it out and make sure everything looks right in the transmission. He says everything looks fine except the 3rd gear drum is cracked but doesn't look serious, so he puts it back together and I get it back. I bought two new flex plates at this point and installed the new stall w/ the new flex plate at this point, kept the 2nd one as a spare in case this one bent or when I was ready to do the two stockers welded together setup.

3rd time around I got the two spacers and put one between the fp/crank and one between the fp/tq like it comes stock (so I'm told). Bolts from the fp were rubbing against the starter plate.

4th time around I'm told to put the spacers both on the fp/crank side and to check and make sure my adapter plate (made by Lee Evans, not Kevin) was not too thick. It was too thick by .30"~ and was thicker in some places than others. So I had the plate grinded down to what its supposed to be as close as possible, and I put it back together

Now I'm on my 5th time taking the trans out and I have no clue what could be causing this grinding noise. The fp bolts no longer rub and the ring gear now looks like its perfectly in line like its supposed to be.

It will only make this grinding noise in every gear other than Park and Neutral. When you put it in any other gear, at first it will idle just fine, but then when you give it gas and get it up to 1,000-1,500rpms~ it will start to grind and it will grind faster the higher in rpms it goes, if you let it slowly down to idle it will continue to grind until you put it in P, or N.

So now I'm going to order the actual kiggly plate and a new starter plate, and I want to find input from people who have actually used the IPT 9.5" stall in a 6bolt motor/2g trans setup to figure out exactly how they did it. Please tell me how did you install your spacers, did you have to grind down your tq bolts, etc.

Thanks for your help guys. This has been very frustrating.

I had this exact setup w/o any issues.. I ran 2 flexplates w/o spacers and the kiggly kit. Are your flexplate to torque converter bolts backing out? I had that issue and ended up tack welding all four of them..never had that problem again and ran many 9.5x passes.
Also is this a manual to auto conversion?

its a 6bolt in a 2g conversion, car has always been auto as far as I know. Wish I could just call ya and pick your brain for a few minutes. The bolts stayed tight every time. I've got a new starter plate, and kigglys plate this time actually made by kiggly, not home made by Lee. There were a few differences between the two plates, mine was slightly warped, and the holes were drilled bigger, I have pics if your interested. So I will be putting the trans back in later this week when I get the nerv to get under the car and do it for the 5th time.
