OK, I just got my tranny back in and my car running. I took it for a test drive and it doesn't go into second sometimes. It is like it is not even there. It did this before I pulled it too, but I was hoping it would be fixed with the new shift fork, fulcrum ball, and clutch. I need some help with this. Sometimes when I go for second and it doesn't go in, I can move the shifter back to N and try again and it works...... When it doesn't go into gear, it does not grind or anything. I am thinking it might be something with the shifter cables but am not sure. Is there any way to adjust those?
Thanks for any advise,
JB

I'd check the clips that hold in the shifter cables. The clips attach to a bracket located on the top of the transmission. I had a similar problem and found out that the clip came off and sometimes the rubber coating would catch and let me shift, other times it would just be like i was pushing the shifter into nothing. But definitely check all connections and retaining devices. Brandon [VFRacing]

Well, I know those clips are on. I just finished putting the tranny back in and specifically remember making sure of that. I am thinking of doing the rollerblade bearing mod for the shifter cable. I am also going to pull the center console and check the cables under there.
Thanks for the input,
JB

I would check the cables everywhere like u said. Also check for anything that might be impeading their use. Good luck and i hope it's not internal :( Brandon [VFRacing]

Ok, I just drove it again and I looked at the cables. The cables appear to be good, although I don't know what to really look for. I did have the problem with it not going into second also, and it was getting stuck in first. What could it be????? I really don't wanna have to pull the transmission again. :notgood: If anyone knows what I should be looking for please let me know.
Thanks allot,
JB

Well, just make sure nothing is in the way of the cables. Also, check the fluid level of your master cylinder. Maybe you have an air pocket in the clutch lines and when u push the clutch in it wont dissengage. Bleeding the lines and see if that fixes anything. If not look for leaks at the slave or master or lines. Brandon [VFRacing]

I know the master and the slave are ok, I bled it till there was no air coming out and then some...... I did not see anything that could be in the way of the cables. How do I determine if the synchros are bad? The reason I wonder if it is something like that is because the only gear it gets stuck in is 1st, it did get stuck in second before, but now it doesn't go into it. 3 4 5 seem to be fine........ One thing weird is that when it gets stuck in 1st I can move the shifter to the other gears and it seems like it would be shifting, but then when I let the clutch out it is still in 1st :notgood: When ever it does that though I can move the shifter though, thats why I thought it was cables.....
Thanks again,
JB
P.S. I hate to love my DSM this much after this many things that have gone wrong....LOL
