just recently i have noticed that when i go from first to second it seems the shifter will go past where its saposed to stop... like if i go straight back from first to second its fine but if i pull the shiter back and twards me it moves... so i thaught it would be the bushing so i checked ALL of them and they are ALL good?? i cant find whats causing this at all... its not noticeable when regular shifting but at the track its making me miss gears... i took the boot off and watched the linkage and the linkage keeps on moving! my dad and i looked at everything and he said the setup looks like its saposed to let it move but it didn't do this before!!! please help!

I understand what your talking about. I have the same problem too, not only is there play in second gear, but fourth as well. I bought a B&M clone short shifter, ES shifter plate bushings, and i replaced the shift linkage bushing with a one of my skateboard bearings. The sucker still gives lots of play. The next step for me was to replace the underhood bushings with some metal bearings, but they look just fine, and not worth replacing. When in fourth gear, i can literally pull the shifter back and foward about an inch. But thats the least of my problems because i have a second gear synchro that went out. But anyways back to your question. I noticed one other thing that gives play in my shifter, its the spring in the shifter assembly. I know that the symborski shift plate bushings come with this rod that replaces the old one that lets the spring have play and that will get rid of some extra side to side movement. I havent found a complete remedy to all this extra unwanted movement, but i made some things better along the way, and in time the answer will come. Someone will help us out.
