Alright well i just picked up a 91 talon and it seems like it may have some problems. He said there was a knocking from the engine so i dont know what to think. I cant tell because he broke the timing belt off. Instead of loosening the tension he tried sliding it off the cam gears. Then it just started to crack then break and he just cut the rest. Now should i go with the slow boy rebuild kit ( i dont like the comp ratio of the pistons they give you) or should i find another kid. It seems like a great deal its just i dont like the pistons they give you. Should i find another kit that and just use actual 2g pistons and 1g rods from a used car or should i look into that more. Do you guys know any other better/cheaper rebuild kits. I was thinking get the standard kit with all the seals and valves and all that and just go but 2g pistons from the dealer or a sit. Then maybe keep my rods that have 180xxx on them which isnt good.

If you are fully comitted to doing a rebuild, I would take out the motor and inspect it first. Take it to a machinist to check the cylinders for out-of-roundness. That way you can be sure of what piston size you need. If it is within spec, I would find a set of used 2g pistons, have your 1g rods magnafluxed and replaced if necessary, and piece together your own rebuild parts.

Some 'kits' are worth the money, others are not. I chose to shop for good deals on individual parts rather than just buying one big kit and it saved me alot of money; it just took a bit more time.
