I've got a friend with a 91 1g and hes running lean while cruising but as soon as he hits boost his AFR goes way rich. His mods are FMIC, stock 14b @ 18lbs, turboback exhaust, safc 2. We've been trying to tune this thing but we dont really have knowelge and the time to be out all the time tuning so if any of you are running similar setups could you please help us out with the settings.

you need a datalogger if you are not using one the other guages are just helping you in tuning but the datalogger is most importanat becuse u must wacth timing and knock and 02 volts constint jumping of o2 between .02 and .9 is normal .9 is rich .2 is lean the afc takes alot of fiddling around with over time you will get it i recommend the pocktlogger i use 1g and 2g versions but the mmcd is free for 1g just need a palm poilt and logger cables

Depending on injector size, you generally begin tuning by global compensation for your injectors (meaning make the same adjustment to the entire fuel curve at all RPM points) then fine-tune from there, adding fuel to the high throttle points and taking it away from the lower points.

Lean down low in the RPM range is OK, but under hard acceleration you should be around 11.5:1 using gasoline. Sounds like you need to take away fuel from the high-throttle points depending on what RPM you're finding it to be rich.

You can't use someone else's settings for your car, since they won't be the same. Is this a WBO2 or one of those blinky, blinky narrowband things? Tell your friend to invest in a logger and we can get him all fixed up.

11.5:1 is pretty lean on straight pump gas. Most DSM's are happiest around 11:1, unless you're on E85, race gas or injecting MeOH.

He has the stock turbo injectors and a AEM wideband 02 which for some reason is haveing a hard time taking readings at idle when warmed up. The car has had a jumpy vac for a little while, but today we noticed thet the boost gauge only reads -1 vac if any at all but will read boost just fine. Tonight we are rplacing all the vac lines and checking for all possible leaks, so e'll see if we can get some things straight to get accurate readings because if we set the settings one time its driven the next time it needs adjusted again.

Ok. Not trying to flag but please watch the spelling and punctuation please. It was kinda hard to read the last post.

I think the problem that you are having is due to no fuel upgrade. Stock 450's can take about 15-16 psi with a 190lph fuel pump upgrade and rewire. So turn down the boost fast. I'd also invest in a logger asap. They are very cheap these days and can save you from doing a rebuild or even worse, buying a new engine. And for the record, the wideband will jump until the car is warmed up.

If I were you I'd use upgrade paths until you get comfortable with tuning in stuff. Like the one on this site ( Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners ) or bushur's ( Buschur Racing - Your source for Mitsubishi racing parts and accessories ). Take your time with modding and happy boosting!
