i just bought the car, its my summer project, it has a eprom ecu, gm maft and box running version 1.3, i can not get it to start. itz running crazy rich, it would shoot white smoke from engine bay, then black from tail pipe. i removed turbo set up (took off mani and everything down to the dump tube) now i only get black smoke comming from the engine bay (mani is off) its getting too much fuel. I turned maft box to zero, disconnected ecu. car is getting spark, wants to kick over, but is getting flooded out, 636cc injectors, unsure of pump, im thinking i need a aftermarket fpr! car was bought as project has amazing list of aftermarket parts for what i paid for it, but its turning into a head ach!!!

its hooked up before the throttle body and connected

its hooked up before the throttle body and connected

was using my phone in the garage with a hand covered in oil :hellyeah:
(sorry for poor grammar)

basically i think its the gm maft improperly tuned.

the wire that I found floating in the engine bay was the "water temp sensor" it looks like its broken off into the housing.(the sensor)

I have no idea how to tune the gm maft, ive read the instructions and still at a loss. im very special ed when it comes to tuning!:ohdamn: please dont flame and say i have no business doing mods then, we all start somewhere! :nono:

there is also a wire floating by the fpr i could not locate the terminal it goes too. the engine bay is a complete hack job

Sounds like you need to get your wiring figured out first. That might solve some of your problems anyways. Good luck.

a malfunctioning coolant temp sensor will cause these cars not to start. common problem at least for 1g's not 100% on 2g's.

It was the coolant temp sensor! The upper one. The wire was hanging in the engine bay, the copper end and thread was broken off into the housing. I had the get a screw extractor to pull it out. Put it all back together, then fired right up! Now another problem presented itself. Cyclinder 4 smokes and has oil coming from it? Bad seal? It also has a manifold thread bolt broken at the top of it, also there's no engine kill! I started it, turned the key off and out and the engine was still running!!!!!!! Anyone know the engine kill wire in the ecu ? I think he has a kill switch wired somewhere there about 5 different switched in there !!!!!!

Glad to hear you figured it out. 90% of the no starts on here seem to be the ECT.

Try and trace the switches back to where they originate. If it were me I'd be ripping them all out and starting over, but that's my own opinion.

Crazy how a brass sensor can not throw any codes, but keep your car from running and make it run crazy rich! This car needs Jesus, or I need him, cause now I just stripped out one thread for the down pipe, and broke a bolt in the othier !!!!!!!!!! I think I'm done working on the car for the day...... The can of gasoline and the matches sitting next to it are looking a little too tempting !!!!!!! Thanks for all the help again guys :D:banghead:
