I am looking at these two set up's because they are the best deals. I found a better than great price on the ross pistons and likewise on the eagle's, but all in all my research shows wiseco pistons to be superior.....

Since I don't have the same sweet deal on the wiseco's some thing has to give and I thought the 1g rods would make a good alternative. I understand 500 is at the stress limits of the 1g rods so I thought I would check in with the pro's before I did some thing stupid.....

Well 500 HP would be pushing it for a stock 1G rod, but there are things you can do to help them. For example I would consider adding the ARP bolts, resizing, and balancing the minimum you should do. However you could also consider grinding the forging line from the beams of the rod, and having the rods annealed, re hardened and tempered. I don't think you will save much money this way, as there will be some costs involved for the above mentioned parts and processes.

Personally I prefer the Wiseco pistons, and have used them in many motors without incident. I have also used the Ross pistons, again without problems. If machined, assembled correctly, and with the proper supporting parts and components neither piston should give you any trouble.

Thanks big woo. I really don't think the ross would give me any problems either. In fact the reason I like the wiseco's better is quite trivial, they expand less consequantly driving better cold.......

Ive seen good results with ross pistons but I've heard they have a good bit more piston slap. I don't believe their a free floating piston like the weisco(maybe im wrong) I am waiting right now for my eagle/weiscos to come in. I made my decision on I want a very little hassle car and a piston that isnt going to give me issues but good performance. The weisco will handle the power I want to through at it and little to no slap (machine work does affect this). I would save for another 2-4weeks whatever it takes you and hold out for the eagle/weisco combination. How much can you get the eagle/ross' for? You might want to try talking to the vendors because alot of times if your buying a combo from them they'll give you a better price but only if you buy both the pistons and the rods from them.

I got mine for 780shipped eagles/weiscos and that was no special deal or anything like that.

I went with a JE/Crower combination, however i spent alot of cash on it since they were custom.I thought about the Ross/Eagle combo and even Kieth Blacks,in the end I am happy with my decision.Just the oethers were going to take longer to be done.Really its up to you, however Budget wise,Spend the extra if you have it to get the Eagle Rods in addition to the Weisco pistons. It is a very good combination and many Higher Hp dsm's have them and havent had many problems.

eagle/ross for 580, and wiseco/bigrods for 500

I'd suggest getting the wisecos and then the scat rods... I don't have personal experience with them, however everyone i've talked to about them says they're manufactured almost exactly the same as the eagle rods. something to look into at least, they're usually about 280 for the set.

Wiseco's have an offset pin hole which makes them a quieter running piston (for a forged piston) and easier on the bores and rings. The 1g rod if you fit arp bolts, polish out the casting lines on the beams and get them shotpeened will see you to 550whp as stated in a lot of other posts. never heat treat a cast rod to harden it! you will be sorry! after polishing a rod you can also put them in an oven at 140 degrees celcius for 8 hours and then have them shotpeened which just adds a little bit more stress relief process.

Sorry my mistake they are forged off a casting, very good BIG WOO good pick up!
