On saturday I got in the car and fired it up and put my face on the radio. No power, ok so maybe it's a fuse. I check and the radio fuse is fine but the "room" fuse is blown. I go to put another 10-amp and it blows the instant the fuse touches the connector. When I searched some people had said the room fuse blown will cause the radio not to work, however, I can't find why the fuse keeps blowing. Any suggestions there would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the radio and check its fuse. Look for something having rubbed-through some insulation related to the radio install (has to be aftermarket if you ripped the face off, I'd think).

Note that the obligatory comments about your face were almost completely passed over. :D

Im having a similar problem mine though keeps flickering the lights on the face and it turns off when you get to a certain volume but the fuses are fine? any diagnosis when it comes to wiring or electrical i suck.

That one's probably a loose bulb, and good luck with finding where.

Room fuses suck. Being that it is linked to every other piece of electric in the cabin. Check the "cigar" lighter too, make sure it's not making contact.

I was afraid I'd be pulling the radio out(yes it is aftermarket). I'll check the lighter also, both had been working the last time I drove the car which was like 3 days before this.

Update:

I pulled the radio and the fuse in the radio is not blown, also the cigarette lighter still works fine.

Alright. Normally, with the room fuse something in the cabin won't work. Check all your electric type stuff and see what doesn't work because the room fuse will be related to that component.

Test your alternator too, make sure you're not overvolting.

I had the same problem with my car, it ended up being the passenger side vanity mirror in the visor. The power wire going to it was shorted out.

The visors are a good place to start since the wires can get worn out from the movement of the visors. Unhook the lights and see if the short goes away.

The interior lights don't work but so far that's the only other thing. I haven't checked the vanity mirrors so I'll check those.

Another update

The lights on the Vanity mirrors do not work either.

Take the visors out and disconnect the wiring to them (there's clips) and see if it still blows the fuses. I unhooked that wiring and it solved my problems.

Someday I'll pull the headliner and rewire those lights, but right now it's not a major concern for me.

I'll try that later today. I think I have a screwdriver in my car.

Check and make sure the connectors are in good order. They might have just gotten really dirty causing it to short out your fuse.

Wow your vanity light doesnt work either man im serious im having the same problems i hope i can get some feedback by on this thread LOL

I was incorrect the vanity mirrors in fact work. It looks to me the only things that don't work so far are the inside lights and the radio.

That's strange, none of my interior lights worked when I blew that fuse (except for dash lights).

Have you pulled the stereo and looked for loose or exposed wires?

Your radio fuse isn't blown under the dash is it?

I didn't see a radio fuse under the dash, unless it's not called radio.

I haven't looked for exposed wires yet. Since that step is the most PITA, I was saving that for last. The person who owned car before me wired it like an idiot. I have ball of wiring under the dash and other mics wires that go nowhere.

Update:

After just a super quick once over I noticed a little exposed wire on the 12v yellow wire. I haven't had a chance to tape it up yet.

Well, that's a definite possibility. If the power wire grounds out at all it'll trip the fuses. I hope that's all it is for you! Tracing electrical problems is a major pain! :notgood:

So do I, I may not have time to go over the whole harness until saturday, but I will post what fixed it when/if I find out.

I have all next week off work so I will post back with the resolution. Just letting you know I haven't forgetton sbout this thread if anyone else was awaiting the outcome.
