about a month ago i started my car and as soon as i did it started knocking horrible, my first guess was a rod or main bearing. the only weird thing is i drained the oil today finally and there was no metal shavings and the oil was just plain dark black. could it be something else? like i said it just knocks horribly and wont go about 3 grand if reved. after draining all the oil out i started it back up bc i was just curious to see if i let it run some if there would be any metal but there was none

Check the vacumm lines going to your a/f solenoid on the back right of your engine bay. If those are damaged it would definately explain the knock.

make sure ## crank pulley is tight i just had the same scare sounded just like a rod knock and my crank pulley was loose

i take it that it is a hollow knock then? If its coming from the rods or crank it will sound hollow. Check crank pulley first. How is oil pressure? How about the balance shafts? if none of these above fix it, Then i would take off a main cap and a rod cap, and use some good ol' plastigage and check your oil clearances. $3 may make a $1200 difference from needing a new engine. that will help determine if you need new bearings, or a crank kit or so on. hope this helps and the best of luck to you
