ring gap measuring tool question!

Hello to everyone

it is my understanding that you're supposed to use a feeler gauge to measure the piston ring gap. i bought this feeler gauge at my local autozone and as you can see in the wiseco pistons i bought from extrempsi.com it says to measure the gap for the desired HP gains, which would you recommend me to choose? Im looking for around 450whp or less.

Im guessing that if i chose (for example) street moderate which is .0050" on the top ring this feeler gauge will have that measurement, right

All you have to do is open the package of the feeler gauges and look for .005 it says on the package it's in there. When checking ring gap you also want to check top middle and bottom to make sure it's consistent throughout the whole cylinder. If it's not your gonna have to go back to the machine shop.

Those figures shown represent the recommended gap for every inch of bore. Setting the top ring gap at .0050 would result in catastrophic failure.

Since you do not have a profile or list your particular bore diameter, its impossible to give you the actual measurement.

My bore was honed to .20

But my question is, don't I have to follow the manufacture gap specifications on the paper provided with the pistons?

i'd trust the gap recommended by reputable builders...not just take the manufacturer's word as gospel.

85.5 ÷ 25.4 = 3.3661 (measurement of bore size in inches)
Then multiply the bore size by the application in the paper as follows: 3.3661 × .0050 = 0.0168

correct me if im wrong, but i think that would be the final gap that i would have to give to my top ring if my calculations were not wrong. i would then have to use the feller gauge at .016, right? or do i have to find one that has the 16.8?

FYI I'm at 85.5 mm bore.... And I set my top to 0.022 and bottom to 0.024 for those HP goals.... Yes you can go tighter.
0.016 is recommended, ( math from wiseco) and no that's not good for the thermal expansion you will see...
And yes that tool is good, I have the same one and it worked fine.

Which any scientific form of measurement you use rounding.....!!.. Based on the precision on your tools.

And the bolt # is irrelevant.
