Hey guys whats a good end gap for my ross rings? I currently set the 1st ring to about .015,and the 2nd ring to .018. Any suggestions? Im running 18 psi daily,and want to be pushing atleast 350 whp total.
 
that was just asked on another thread... OEM is what i run on mine and always have I'm running 20psi and 25 at the track... Ross does have there own way of calculating ring gap for there rings but it still falls in OEM specs.

this is there formula

END GAP
ROSS RACING RINGS for the top and second grooves are oversized
and must be file fitted to obtain proper end gap.
The proper amount of end gap required is directly dependent upon
the amount of heat to which the top ring in most cases should be the
bore size in inches x .004. (To convert mm to inches multiply the
bore size in mm x .03937). To determine the proper end gap in the
second ring on normally aspirated engines multiply the bore size in
inches x .005. It is recommended that the second rings have more
end gap than the top rings to allow any blowby gasses passing the
top rings to quickly escape to the crankcase. If the second ring gaps
are set smaller than the top ring gaps, the engine may show less
leak down under static conditions! Should the top ring land be .180
or narrower add .002 total to the above computed end gaps.
EXAMPLE: 3.625 (92mm) bore with. 150 width top land: 3.625 x .004
= .015 plus .002 for the narrow top land = .017 total end gap.
For engines that are blown, turbocharged, or run nitrous systems of
more than 30 horsepower per cylinder add .004 total to the end gaps
shown above. EXAMPLE: 3.625 x .004 = .015 plus .004 for
turbocharger - .019 total end gap.

Isnt this like your 3rd or 4th thread made on this subject?? WTF...

Anyways. Each piston manufacturer sets different ring gaps for their pistons... which is why they send a spec sheet along with them..

For example.. if i remember off the top of my head
For Turbo Vehicles.. Wiseco calls for .018 Top and .020 Bottom ring gap for .020 over bore

Thats a good ring gap for plenty of DSM setups out there... you'll have less blowby and better compression with those tight gaps...

Now when your running high boost (30+psi) and or nitrous, its better to go with a bigger ring gap

The main thing you wanna make sure is that your ring gaps are NOT under the minimum suggested, because once that heat expands those rings... if there isnt enough gap to close... they'll snap

When your gapping rings, its ok to go over the minimum ring gap, because when your talking about thousands of a tenth, its so small it wont effect tooo much if your over the minimum a bit..

yah i just realized that i posted on one of your other posts asking the exact same thing... how many times do you have to get the same answer befor you belive what you are being told? you really need to stop starting so many threads asking the same questions just cause you dont like the answers you are getting....:nono:
 
actually I was asking personal pereferences,and I was told ptw clearance not end gap. And the instructions are confusing on the paper. Now, Im sorry for posting multiple times,but when you need help and you only get one answer that isnt clear what are you suppose to do? I applogize I just need help. No need to bash me. Thankyou Dsmpwr you have helped me alot.
 
I am using .020 over ross pistons,and This motor is going to be run on 18psi of boost as a daily driven car.Sometimes It will be pushed to 25psi. What is good clearances for the rings? I read alot of different answers.

its not that im triing to bash you but this is your original post from one of your other theads that you got several answers on.
 
Ok,I understand and said I was sorry. This is just a first time build,and I dont have anyone to help me,and I dont want all this time and money to go down the drain thats all.
 
yah i understand... but if you dont like the answers people are giving you ask why we think what we are telling you im running ross pistons and rings in my wife care .020 same as you and im running oem specs compression #1 0.014 and compression #2 0.018 and have no problems. There are always people that will say different things thats why ist always best to ask questions then to just start a new thread. good luck on your build.:thumb:
