Hey Tuners,

Can anyone confirm for me the minimum specifications to mount a 17" rim's offset using a Brembo caliper? I'm looking for wheel offset and or your personal experience with fitment of a 17" alloy and Brembo's.

+38 is the limit without spacers DEPENDING on spoke design and diameter/width. For instance, even a +35 rpf1 in 17x9 will require about a 7-8mm spacer yet drag Dr31's in +38 17x9 will fit without.

I've purchased a set 17 x 8 +40 Enkei GTC01 RP's. They're 19.3 lbs each, which is a tremendous upgrade from the 18 x 8 Enkei EKM3's I bought last summer, they weigh 24.6lbs EACH!!

So, I suppose I'll end up having to buy a Brembo setup just to find out if they will fit. Keep them if they do and sell them if they don't. :(
 
No USDM Evo ever came with an offset below +38. I don't think that any Evo anywhere came with anything other than +38 or +46, but I can't be sure, so I won't say it.

Also, as more and more of the available Evo Brembos come from Xs, instead of 8s and 9s, you all need to be careful. The brakes from an Evo X require 18" wheels, although that's due to the major change in the rotor, instead of the minor change in the caliper.
 
Older Euro/Japanese EVOs (eg 5 and 6) ran 17x7.5 +38. I'm willing to bet the Evos 1-4 ran something in the 40s given the same calipers as a 2G AWD.
 
I would just point out that wheel offset is irrelevant as far as clearing Evo brembos - offset is what determines whether you clear the upright.

Spoke design and wheel inner diameter determine caliper clearance.
 
I agree that you need to think about the spokes and the inside diameter. For many wheels, the barrel is not flat inside, but has a slightly smaller diameter for the first two inches inward from the spokes. Those wheels can have offset issues, as well as spoke issues.

Maybe you consider that part of the spoke (and I'm cool with that view). My point - which some people might not get - that some wheels work in some offsets and not in others. I became highly aware of this in my struggles to put smaller wheels on an Evo. Braids, for example, are almost 1/2" smaller for the outer-most 2" on the inside. With Wilwoods on 11.66" rotors, the caliper hits the inside of a 15" wheel before it hits the spokes, so you have to stay with a lowish offset.
 
Like most have already stated a stock VIII and IX wheel is 17 x 8 +38 so if you're planning to use a caliper from an VIII or IX then you will need at minimum a +38 offset.

Also like already stated the spoke design plays a part in it. Just because the wheel dimensions technically meet the requirements the spoke design can throw it off.

For example I can tell you that an Advan RS wheel with dimensions of 18 x 8 +37 will not clear without a spacer of 6mm due to the concave spoke design. I'm sure we all know what an Advan RS wheel looks like so if your spoke design resembles that than be prepared to make other arrangements unless you plan on using a wider wheel or lower offset.

Find out how thick the disk is on the wheel that you want. It will probably help you to determine if it will clear or not.
