Heh, I knew some was going to bring that up. Though I doubt the higher model avengers(ones with the 2.5l v6) would find to much.

Good call. I stand corrected. :thumb:

I just came back from Japan a month ago and I did see a 2g and a 1g in Tokyo, Japan. I believe they never were big in the JDM market because they are left hand drive and since we never converted them to RHD, for them who would want it, (very hard to drive LHD with roads specifically set up for RHD), especially when you have a lot better offerings to choose from (Silvias, Skylines, Evos) So that being said, yes they exist, but as far as any parts you might want, I don't think it'd be anything more then some badging or tail lights. On my next trip back in a few months I will keep an eye out. As for trying to be JDM, your not getting short changed like the Honda crowd.

right.... so correct me if im wrong but they didnt make a jdm right hand drive eclipse (96). some stupid kid told me he had one with electronic hydrolic valves LOL riiiighhht...and he had it import from japan and will smoke EVERYTHING in my town LOL......

Yeah, they're LHD because they're imported from America. There's 3 or 4 of them on base. Most at 95-96 models, no badging, and JDM tail lights and folding side mirrors. I looked in the window of one and it wasn't even a turbo. One Japanese guy has a 97-99 Spyder but I have no idea if it's turbo or not.

in september of this year mitsubishi is coming out with a right hand drive 3g, but that doesnt do us anygood. :)

Whats up guys, I live in Japan and i have a 94 Eclipse AWD, They never made Eclipses here and my cars model name is GSR 4 Evolution. I was wondering if anyone knows where my car came from, it is the same as a gsx in the states i guess. But why would my name be different? Its really hard for me to get parts here because i order most of them from the states, i have done alot to the car since ive had it, Free mods, K@N filter, hard intake, MBC, Supra smic & piping, plugs, wires, EVO III o2 housing/manifold, down pipe, full exaust, walbro 255 fp, apexi super afc, JIC FLT-A2 sus, and just a few other small stuff for looks. But im just a small car in the land of the GTR,s, EVO,s STI,s and RX 7,s. Is it worth it for me to keep going or just give in and get a, well i guess a domestic car since im here in Japan. Just curious, and is there any more parts i can get here from the Evo that will help me out, sorry for the long post, just wanted to say hi.

Wassap, I'm in Japan as well. Just keep modding it and enjoy it. There are plenty of parts here you can get. There are intercoolers galore over here. Just find yourself a stock r33 fmic and pop it on and make your own piping. Go visit some of the performance shops. They are going to have parts for you. Couple things you could swipe from evos would be their exhaust manifolds, and turbos, fmic's, brakes. All sorts of stuff.

When bringing cars from Japan to America, they sometimes change the name. It's happened to plenty of vehicles.

How common are DSMs in Japan?

Most of the parts should be interchangable for evo's and Galant VR-4s so you should be all set... Electronics will all fit the same... Suspension in Japan will be hard to find unless you get it from the US... Or Tein makes them so maybe you can get one from there... The handling isnt gonna be nearly as good as a RX-7, Evo or STi... But your car has potential to be fast...

Now the true question is what do you expect from your car? The honest reality is that you probably will not be able to beat those cars around the turns... But DSMs have a great potential for strait lines or even a fast daily driver... Good luck and welcome to the club..

Eclipses, or DSMs, are not very common even in Asia or the South Pacific. When I bought my GSX in 98 and stayed in Australia for a few months, I had never seen a single Eclipse. I saw lots of FTOs, Evolutions and Pajeros but not our cars. But the locals do know what an Eclipse is and wanted our cars in place of what they have.

the most DSM's they ever exported in a year was like 1700, that includes the eclipse and talon around the world. Mitsu/chrysler didnt ship them around cause 1) there wasnt a market because of the FTO and GTO 2) the price to ship them over seas would make them almost as expesive as the GTO. Your car was made and fully designed here in the DSM plant. Yopu ask should I mod my car in the land of Japenese supercars? I would say yes, the reason is for the price of a GTR or supra STOCK from the factory you can make a DSM faster, turn better, stop faster, and everything and still have thousands in your pocket. Your car will be a underdog, and doesnt have the flash of a supra or GTR but think of the look on thier face when you pass them in a no name car :thumb: .

With few mods and the tuning experience over there, I would say youll be running pretty good.

By GTO-do you mean Holden Manaro? The Aussie version of the states GTO. Or am I missing something here?

I haven't seen a single eclipse here yet. See a good dozen skylines a day, but never seen an eclipse. My DSM is in Minnesota in storage. I'm just on a 1 year tour over here on the island of Okinawa.

Thanks for all the help guys, ive been here for 8 years and i can count how many dsms ive seen on one hand. Ill try to send a few pics when i get a chance. Im getting my clutch put in next week and im gonna tune my computer also. I havent really had a chance to race many other cars yet, ive only had my eclipse for less then a year, and the streets here are so small you dont have a chance to line up on the street to much. But as soon as i finish a few more things i will take it down to one of the street race spots, im sure i can keep up with a skyline gts-t but i think the gtrs would give me trouble, ill keep you guys posted. This site has really good info and almost everything you need to know to tune your car, my car is same side drive as the us models, left side. Thanks for the help everyone.

oh yea u tell me about DSM being rare. I have 90 Eclipse GSR-4(1g AWD)

In south Korea, its even worse... All u see is 99% cheaply made pos k-cars. 1% BMW craps. even harder to get parts for my car; luckly enough, 2nd generation and 3rd generation sonata is basically 4g63 non turbo.. i can get few compatable parts from em but other than that, I'm own my own. i normally order parts from US most o the time(shipping sux :| ) think i saw a little numbers from newspaper; stating that 95.5% domestic(which is cheaply made k-cars) 4.5 % import(everything included) in yr o 2003.
(this number is excluding the cars from US military base since cars there are registered as alien car)

What makes me proud there r less than 20 1G AWD in South Korea and i m one o em :thumb: :dsm:

Back to the topic, I think ### version of DSM has some options stripped off. I dun have cruise control (duh), no ABS, but has air dam option or watever. and i have fuel cut @ 180kmh(117mph). not sure if the ECU and everything else is the same but hey heres the pictures :p not 56k friendly

nice~ do korean people comment on your car? When I was visiting korea, I havent seen any eclipses. But ive seen many nice looking tiburons. So you are in the military it seems. My home town is Korea.

Oh and I didnt really like the way you said POS k-cars. I mean, they were cheap and bad cars, but over the years, they have improved alot. You dont see the Hyundai luxury cars in the states, but in korea they are very nice made. It goes for other cars too, they have nice and bad cars. Like the way they have cheap american cars and expensive ones.

haha i just call em k-cars ;)

dun't get me wrong, i saw some "fast" k-cars around. tiburan w/ 2.7 delta twin-turbo dynoed 780rwhp w/o spray -_-

TONS O beta(2.0DOHC tiburan motors) turbo dynoed over 300rwhp.. one i saw recently was so nice w/ motec, and full T06H 20g (external wastegate), dynoed freakin 348rwhp on small ass ELANTRA -_- they weigh just over 2600lb I was lucky i didn't run into em in highway.

Some ppl work on those cars and try to make em fast, I respect that :p Dun get pissed off

aite pz  :dsm:
