only right hand drive car i drove was an old rolls royce.

smooth ride, but still annoying as hell driving on the wrong side of the car.

and wtf to shifting with your left hand
 
Shifting on the left isn't hard after about 5 mins, driving RHD here sucks though. My question is how are you gonna mount the steering rack past the tranny? Don't think it's that simple.

I have a 1g and was wonering if anyone here has seen or done a rigth hand drive conversion on one? I have a few friends with 240's and RX7's with rhd conv. and Im really itching to do it to my car. Also where can i find the stuff to do it I havent had any luck with this at all. :(
 
Reason why you have no luck is because the DSMs are made in America. None were RHD. Not even the ones exported to Japan.
 
I don't have the skills to do it, but i would assume you could cut out the firewall and weld in some type of RHD firewall, use JDM galant steering rack (assuming it doesnt interefere with the drivetrain), and make a dash. Plenty of people make custom dashes to turn their cars into giant rolling stereos, so i don't see why it isn't possible. But i'm sure its all easier said than done. I know i'm sure as hell not attempting it, I don't want to have to learn to drive all over again. :thumb:

not true ... they were called eclipses there and they had the gs and gsr-4 (our gsx) ... they made 15 or so with gull wing doors and sold for the equivlant of $50,000 .

I've even seen a couple of the 1G's with the targa top on here, they were all N/T 2.0's though. I wonder if the AWD chassis would flex too much with a targa top?

Damn. Only 15 altered with the gull-wings? That now makes me sad... I was hoping to find a junkyard pair and see about wedging them on. :) Anyone have pictures saved of them? Haven't been able to find any yet.

In other news, has anyone tried to contact the importing company, and see if it was possible to make a replacement kit for the 1Gs? I know I'd be willing to pay a couple grand for proper gullwing doors, but would rather get it from/done by someone who's already done it successfully. Would kinda suck to go to a shop and have them do it, but get binding and whistling and crap.
 
:D I myself, wouldnt mind shifting on the left side...until I found out that the gears would stay in the same place, so instead of 5th gear being the farthest away, 1st would be...

hell no...I couldnt shift like that...I'd have to have the lowest gear, closest, highest, farthest.

Oh well...I'm faster with my right. Quick Shift :D
