i have a jdm engine coming over soon. is there any conversion needed to be done? like right hand to left hand drive stuff?

assuming its a Gvr4 motor: you need to use the upper thermostat housing with the pressure cap off of your old engine, you need to use your US 02 sensor if you keep the american harness, and JDM motors usually have bad front/rear motor mounts (use your old ones...) and busted igniter packs.... other than that, its straitforeward drop in. make sure your ratios match up tho, no good if the front ring/pinion count is 64:14 instead of 58:14.... you'll need a new ring gear/pinionshaft if this is the case.

also thought i should mention you have air plumbing problems... the JDM intake is about a half inch larger than the US and the 16g turbo inlets are bigger.... but the stock intake has a little spacer rubber ring that you can take out and it fits just fine...

Obviously, the steering wheel's on the other side of the car with a Skyline, older EVO or other right-hand drivers, but I've never actually sat in one of these cars. What else is different? Are the pedals in the same order, or is the clutch on the left and gas on the right? Does the shifter follow the same pattern, or is it 'mirrored', like 1st is up and right instead of what we're used to? Just wondering. My father's trying to combat his late-middle-ageness by getting a sporty car - he's looking to spend around $90,000 and rather than be like the other rich people and get an exotic euro, I'm pressuring him to get in touch w/ Motorex about an R33 or 34. Lucky for me, he's fickle and will probably get something else a couple years from now no matter what he buys now. He's made me purchase the three DSM's I've had since I started driving, so I'm hoping I can get him to buy a Skyline and 'acquire' it once he gets tired of it. He likes the idea of right-drive, but he'll probably get sick of having to deal with driving like that all the time.

Its not bad once your used to it...

Everything is the same except on the opposite side. Lights are onteh outside (right) but the pedal/sihfter is all the same. Ive had seat time in a s15 Silvia and it was great. Comes natural...really

And it's fun to have the driver steer with his hands in his lap while the passenger holds a spare steering wheel which suddenly comes "off" while he swerves.
Ah, the days of the Lotus Cortina....

Clutch brake gas is same, you shift with left hand and everything else is backwards.

just dont dont make a fool of urself when driving a RHD by turning on the Windsheild wipers instead of the Turn Signal(and vis-versa)

heres what i used to do:

i just simply remembered that the Turn-signal/lightswitch was always one the side nearest to the drivers door!worked every time.

want some quick practice and a vacation?
go to Jamaica for a week or two & hit up a few auto x's or rallying through the cane fields (FUN) and it's cheap as shit (dad still lives there & he rally races a toyota levin) so it's free for me :D it's like candela said, it comes natural.

I am a student here in the U.S.A but am originaly from South Africa. I really, really want to take my car back with me to SA since we dont get them there. I would be able to import it there I found out, but I was just curious if anybody has heard of such a conversion for a 97 eclipse b/c I heard of other cars going through with this but not a DSM. thanks

there should be no reason for you to switch it to right hand drive.. wouldnt you rather have left hand for the pimp factor down there? seeing how the jspec supras/skylines/240s/etc etc etc etc are right hand drive and they are cool here in the states, all you need is legal paperwork verifing that its legal and whatnot.

but if you just want to do the swtiching just because (like for a show car) .. dont. that seems like a big and pointless thing to do to a car.

Unfortunately not. The Eclipse (well, and Talon) was only sold in left-hand drive, both inside and outside the US. Strange but true :)

Yeah your probably right, it would be pretty cool:thumb: I was just thinking of the safety issues, like when I want to pass a car etc. but then again I would have a left-hand drive so who cares!!!

Does anyone know if any DSMs were ever made in Japan? I've always heard no, but they're in Europe, too, so why not in Japan? I read the Eclipse profile on GT2, and it said they were. I heard that the 1st gens were, but I have no idea and this has been driving me nuts for a while now. If anyone knows, please lemme know! A source for your evidence would nice... mmm kayyy? :D

Some 1g's were toured around as promotional rides in Japan, they had gullwings.

Do you have different info on what a DSM is? I thought this covered all but the Avenger:

http://dsmtuners.com/model-guide/

PS no sarcasm involved, I am genuinely curious.

What most people seem to refer to as a DSM and what technicly is a DSM are two different things. For example, there is hardly any information that would be helpfull to an avenger owner on this site.

Check it out http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/ There is a section on what a dsm is and stuff.

That site states that a DSM is any car built in the Normal, IL plant. Galant's from 94-up are included, but not GVR-4's, which were built in Japan.

An Avenger owner could find a ton of relatable information at http://dsmtuners.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Heh, I knew some was going to bring that up. Though I doubt the higher model avengers(ones with the 2.5l v6) would find to much.
