Rich but lean?

Alright well I've got an 18g on a stock sidemount right now at stock boost. Fuel upgrades are aeromotive FPR, FIC 650's, Walbro255hp then for tuning safc2 and data logger. I've had knock issues for ever, but when I pulled the plugs they were white as if the car was lean. I know it's rich cause there are some dead spots getting on it since it's getting too much fuel. Any ideas? It would be nice to get rid of this knock it's kinda high like at times 20's. Turn up or down the fuel pressure or something . BTW it's at stock 38psi fuel pressure.

check your fuel filter,it could be clogged...bump the fp to 45psi with the vacuum line off.also check your timing and make sure its at 5 degrees.Do you have a check engine light,or any bad sensors?

Nope all sensors are good not throwing any codes. Timing is at 5degrees. I'll turn up the fuel pressure to 45 see if it helps. Probably going to get a new fuel filter cause it's been about 8months.

Tried it out and no dice. Still getting around 20 and up knock. Shes set at 45 for the fuel pressure and the safc2 is set at -20 everything. I've played with it some, but still not much luck.

Okay well, you're using a logger. What's it looking like? No wideband? Fuel trim's? O2's? Timing? etc.? What's the gap set at on the plugs?

If your plugs aren't gapped right (too wide maybe), then that could cause the dead spots cause the air could be blowing out the spark. Need more info to know what's going on.

Alright this is how she starts.

RPM: 4406 Knock is at 23, O2-R .87, O2-f 2.49, Timing advance 21, FTRM is 136.7%
RPM: 7062 Knock is at 27, O2-R .83, O2-f 3.49, Timing advance 8, FTRM is 103.9%

Sorry I cannot seem to get my logger up to the computer and download it all. This is where the knocking is all happening. The knock ranges all the way from 7-27. Hope this helps

Am I understanding your post right? Front and rear O2's? This IS on a 1g right? You don't have a rear O2. Also, 136% on fuel trim is lean. Around 100% is the medium. Still wondering about the plug gap though.

Another thing, you shouldn't be getting 21 degrees of timing with 23 counts of knock. 21 degrees is about right. 8 degrees of timing is horrible. Shouldn't be going below 15 degrees. How are your lifters?

FT's are useless at WOT.

Although tuning with O2 voltage is useless, you can normally get a half a**ed idea of what's going on using that number. 0.83 is lean, which is what your plugs are telling you. But your SAFC settings look rich.

Put your FP back to where it should be. I never advocate changing FP over or under what the ECU expects it to be. Increasing FP makes the injectors larger and the pump smaller and vice versa.

Are you sure you really have 650's and didn't get 550's by mistake. I'm running 650's at 11.3:1 AFR and my settings are in the -30% range.

Anyway, might want to take a look at the fuel filter as posted above.

Have you tried dropping the SAFC down to -14 or -15%? At -20% you should be running rich, but not enough to cause rich knock.

look put your fuel pressure back down to stock. If your plugs are white and your knocking, then your lean. thats the bottom line, you need to add fuel. tune for no knock, and try to keep your o2's somewhere around .88
maybe your injectors are smaller than you think, or maybe youve got a clogged fuel filter(doesnt sound like it if it is only 8 months old), or maybe your fuel pump is taking a dump on you.

Gap on the plugs are .025 I believe. I'll turn down the FP and set everything to -14. I ordered 650's through slowboy, but I've been told twice once on here that they mite not be. I know if it's around -10 it runs crappy boggs down a lot under WOT. Lifters they are pretty noisy . This weekend a friend is going to swap his computer out with mine which has dsmlink. Probably take a few logs and then i'll post those.

That is always a good idea, but I highly doubt it's the problem.

I am running 20psi on my EVO III 16g, 650cc injectors and a 190lph FP (no rewire). I'm getting a consistent timing curve with no knock.

I turned the FP down and put everything to -14 on high and low settings. So far the most knock i've seen is 12. Probably needs a little more fuel in certain areas. Pretty sure they are 550's now cause if they were 650's at -14 it wouldn't go very far. Do you guys think the knock I'am getting now is partial engine noise and some real knock?

Best way to find out if it is real knock or phatom knock is this, go out and buy some race gas, 110octane, dump it in the car, go do a full pass on the car. Log it and see if the knock is still there, if the knock is gone, then you know that it was real knock, if the knock still accures then chances are you have phatom knock.

I'll check into that I can get some cheap race gas purple power stuff it isn't the best, but it will tell me wtf is going on. It's stupid still showing like teens to 20's in the knock. I cant wait to get a fmic....slap my 3inch gm maf. I'll get some logs this weekend post them and see what it's doing
