I just bought a 92 Laser RS AWD as a project. I am new to the scene and am a little confused about a couple of things. The biggest issue is the oil pressure. When I start the car the oil needle is right around the L. Once the car warms up it drops to less than half way to the L. Is this an oil pressure issue or possible aproblem with the gauge or sending unit? Any help will be very appreciated. There are other things to get fixed but I figure low oil pressure should be a high priority.

From what you are describing, it pretty much sounds like normal operation. The pressure is a little higher when it is cold because the oil is thicker. Then as it warms up and the oil thins out the pressure drops a little. I'm assuming that it goes up if you are running down the highway at say 3k or so. It should be between the low and high mark at this rpm. When idling with a fully warmed motor it will go pretty low on the stock gauge though.

Yes my car does the same thing, for many years ive owned 2 dsms and thats how that gauge always behaved.

oh ok thank you guys. It does go up when cruising at higher rpm so that makes sense. Now I just have to figure out the check engine light and get it smogged... stupid california epa.

Yeah its a pain but gotta deal it at least this time then I can find somebody who will pass it for a litte extra cash later on. Im guessing it isn't anything major. It loops some at idle and when cruising to a stop and smells like its running rich so probably something with the egr or tb.

Yea I have a 91 gsx and mine is the same way when I start it it shows low but as soon as I start driving the pressure goes up. so as long as it goes up it should be fine.
