Newmarket,
hey guys, so i went to a shop on thursday this week, because my water pump went 5k early. So i ended up changin timing belt, and also had a valve cover gasket leak. the shop fixed everything, car runs mint right now. i Just have noticed there is no oil pressure. there is plenty of oil in the car, if anything it's mre than enough, but definetly a lot of it. i've been driving last 2 days like this, dont remmeber if oil pressure was fine earlier or not, but i justn oticed this now. i checked oil cap, and for any leaks, nothing!
car is slammed low, and i am at my gf;s place without a jack, and cannot lift it up, to make sure oil bolt and filter are on tight or not, but there is definetly no leaks, so i am assuming there are tight enough. could be anything the shop did, like any of the timingbelt components, and the oil pressure is bad now, cus maybe they reused old parts, or something? anyways my delima is, its longweekend here, and monday is off, i can either drive the car to the shop on Monday, or i can tow it there? its about 50km from me?
what should i do? my friend is saying dont drive it, cus i can kill the engine, butg i think iwas already driving for a whileon it, and engine sounds very nice, def. no sound inssues. maybe it's a busted gauge, i am not sure, but if it could sound like something serious, i would rathernot risk it. let me kn ow guys, i am ####ing stressed and pissed right now. panicing maybe too much than i should,,, anyways will end up takingthe bus, if its rather not to drive it all. but if its most likely nothing serious, i'll just drive it.

thanks a lot guys

Are you saying there isn't any oil pressure, or is the gauge not reading any pressure? If it's the latter, it could be a bad gauge or sending unit. Until you know for sure, I wouldn't drive the vehicle.

On 2g's it's common for the wire or connector that attaches to the oil pressure sending unit will get ripped off. EXPECIALLY on a lowered one, where the wire can scrape on any driveway. By this I am assuming his gauge is not working, without actual oil pressure I'm sure he car wouldnt be very drivable anymore.

olk i have no idea if it the gauge is working or not, as i said, i just realized right now, the car is not a tmy place, i cannot jack it up. i drove already around 150km after i got it from the shop. i really dont think i scrapped it somewhere, the gauge worked fine befoire i took it to a shop. that being said, i didnt' check if it was working (my mistake), i just checked all the fluids, and shit like that, i dunno if the gauge stopped working right away, or while i was driving. all i am saying is the engine sounds good, drives smooth, and plenty of oil in there. i drove at least 100km with this gauge already, as i noticed while i was on there way to her place. So all this being said, should i get a tow truck, or will probably be ok to drive it to a shop? i mean like 4g63tcrazy said, if it was actually low, probably something would have ####ed up by now. so are the chances good that its the gauge? or is it pretty uncertain at this point.
anyways just want to see if i can drive it another 50km or so, or dont even try.

thanks guys

I would start by checking out your sending unit. Just replace it and go from there, always start with the simplest and cheapest thing first. But like stated before, dont drive the car, dont even THINK about driving that car until you can peek underneath the car for anything that might be wrong. Good lucky buddy

thanks man, i didnt think i should drive it either. i dont have any tools or anything with me to even lift the car, and its so low that i cannot peak underneath really well. i'll probably just get it towed to that same shop on mon or tue, and have them, check it out.

thanks guys!

I can put money on the wire that goes to the sending unit. They only slip on and can slip right off all by them selves without even being touched. The same thing happened to my old 2g. Just get down by your driver side front tire and look at your oil filter housing. You will see a wire with a black clip that should be slid onto a little screw with a single wire running to it. It's most likely just hanging there not connected. Most people will replace that slip on connector with a real connector. Also with no oil pressure the engine would not last as long as it has.. I would guess only like 5 or so mins

oh wow thanks, i'll check that lil wire out for sure. i am a bit of a newb with cars. but i'l try to find it tomorrow, ended up taking a bus home, so going to go back there tomorrow to check it out, hopefully that's what it is, so i can take the car to work on tuesday.
any chance you could send a pic, showing where it is?

thanks

yea, the wire on the sender comes off very easily, especially when replacing the Tbelt..

hey guys, so i lifted the car up after bringing a jack with me, and took some pics of the wires, on one the connector is broken, it looks like a small chip or something inside, and its broken in half. i took few pics, just you can see it clearly. anyways i was just wondering if this is the wire you guys were refering to, near the oil filter housing. i didn't see anything else disconnected, except this. just wondering, if that is the wire you guys were talking about, then most likely the car is fine, and the gauge is just busted, in which case i will drive it to the shop, instead of towing it. or fix it myself later. like i said i drove at least 40km like this, with low pressure on the gauge, and nothing happened, so i am assuming nothing wrong with it, and just busted wire. anyways let me know your thoughts guys.
thanks a lot!

yes, that is the wire we were referring to, and the peice inside is the spade terminal that hooks up to your oil pressure sender..
this is not the exact part but the sender is a goldish color and looks comething like this..

Mine did the same thing, I just cut the wire, stripped it, wrapped it arond the little "button" in the middle(where that spade connector broke off)and soldered it on.. still works fine..

it looked more blackish to me, but then again it was a bit dark, so i am not sure now, but the piece inside definetly looks like that. anyways i got the tow truck coming already, i have 4 tows on my CAA card which i have never used in the last 9 months, so whatever. i'll take it to the shop, see if they can fix it, while i am at work. i have no time, and need it fixed quick, unless they tell me they cannot do it today, then i'll try doing it myself in the evening, by stripping the wire, as you said.
thanks for your replies guys, i am glad i found out this wire, and learned something.
love these forums, always find answer to everything.

so i went and took the car to the shop, they told me same thing, it's just a wire, and that i can drive no problem, nothing wrong with the car, just the gauge, and that is quiet common on these cars. Anyways they will be ordering the new conenctor/unit for me, and will fix it later this week, for now I am just going to drive like this. I would solder it and fix it myself, if I had experience in that, but I don't, so I'd rather just get it replaced properly, since the sender/connector is only like 30-40 bucks i beleive, and not that much work to do it anyways. thanks for all the feedback guys, i am glad my car is fine, i was too paranoid that soemthing could have went wrong, but i m glad i played it safe.
Thanks a bunch for all your feedback
