So i was working on replacing my struts so i had to take off the upper arm, but to do so you have to knock the upper ball joint free. In doing this i damaged the threads of the bolt :/ so the screw won't spin back on. Can i just replace the upper ball joint instead of the whole upper assembly?

well how bad are the threads? i accidentally damaged my upper ball joint threads. i think it cost me about $15 for a re-thread kit. it worked like a charm.

If the threads are badly damaged you will have to replace the ball joint itself.

Yes it is possible to just replace the ball joint, I just did mine last fall. This is also a good time to take advantage of a front camber kit if your car is lowered. Ingalls makes a camber kit that replaces the front upper ball joints with an osolating ball joint to correct for camber.

If you are just looking for a replacement, I got my parts from advanced auto, I usually never buy parts from there but they stocked MOOG replacements. Installation is pretty simple too!

The threads could be MUCH worse, but i'm not sure if they're salvagable. I might try the re-thread kit a try.

I called every auto parts store in the area and no one has them :/ hah

Your better off just replacing it with a new one. Its cheap and easy to do shouldn't take you more then an hour.
