wondering opinions. i'm not familiar w/ 1g's as much as i am 2g's and i was just curious on if the 1.8L and 2.0L motor mounts were similar and if it would be even cost effective. i want to get my laser running and driving again and i don't mind spending a bit of money on it because it was my first car.

i have a 1.8L and i was thinking about about doing it to my car. But im pretty sure that the motor mounts are different then u have to deal with the transmission and stuff. And to drop a 2.0L in there isnt very cost effective either....a more cost effective route would be to buy a gs body for like 500 bucks and then buy a 2.0L to put in. Or you could go the route im going which is to buy a low miles 1.8L and rebuild it, short block it, and turbo it!

I was at the junk yard last year and they had a NT 2.0 and 1.8 right next to eachother. There were a number of differences. The mounts where one of them. The 1.8 drivers side one is shaped a little different and doesn't come out as far.

would it still not be cost effective if u had the whole entire car that the 2.0 is coming off of?
1) the 2.0 car cant be registered bc it has no title
2) it needs a tranny

also, the 1.8 tranny and 2.0 n/t tranny are exactly the same, the part # stamped on them are identical, i have seen for myself, so no problems there

the shells of all 1g's are exactly the same (except the obvious, headlights, taillights, and such), so if you have the mounts, ecm, wiring harness, etc, everything shoudl bolt right on, correct?

also a question: i have heard rumors that the wiring in the 1990 dsms are completely different then the 91-94's.......so therefore swapping a motor from a 1990 into a 91-94 would be near impossible.....is this true?

The trannys are interchangable.
If you have a complete donor car then by all means do it. It's only time consuming, assuming you are doing the labor. You'll have to pull the wire harness and computer, no biggie, takes an hour, tops. Just did one tonight. A 1990 2.0L body with a 1994 2.0L. And yes the wires are different in a 1990, but like I said if you have a whole donor car, the swap is easy. The same is true for converting to a turbo.

Any ?'s, email me I'll be completing mine sometime this week.

I have a '91 2.0L in my 92 1.8L When we did the swap the motor dropped right in NO motor mount changes or fabrication. Now about the tranny yes they are the same but IF you use the 1.8 tranny (less miles or something) You will need a new clutch and flywheel for a 2.0.

wait till you feel the difference :) 92 to 140 is a big difference. The first time I hit second and broke loose I almost shit my pants.
I know it is nothing like the turbo but still I will take a 48hp mod :)
