1G My project I'm starting 1.8L to 2.0L swap

Ok, so I own a 1992 1.8L Mitsubishi eclipse...I was wondering if I could change my little 1.8L engine to a 2.0L, I want to do the work myself and money isn't that big of a problem. I just want a nice 2.0L DOHC engine ya know guys? any input would be usefull

youll have to find motor mounts. other then that no fitment isues really. the 1.8 is liek the abortion motor for mitsu, everyoen is all hatin on it

youll need to do a lot though. you wanna go turbo or non?

Well, see I have a 1992 Plymoth 2.0L in my back yard(its banged up the back is all screwed) so I have the motor mounts. Just the mounts thats it? no changing the wiring harnesses or nothing? Just yank my 1.8L and change the motor mounts?

And don't get me wrong I like my little 1.8L but the thing is the engine has 200k miles and is in desparate need of a rebuild but like I said I'd like to have a 2.0L customized to my feelings.

oh yea everythign has to be changed. the whoel deal

ecu
harness


the whoel deal has to be changed. take a look at the body and frame itself,see if the engine compartments are the same. see if the 2.0L mounts have a hole or mounting posisiotns provided in the body of the 1.8L car.

i dont think mitsu made 3 bodies that year. i know the gst and 2.0L n/a are the same body.

if there the same dude you just solved a question peopel have had for a while. if there the same then any 2.0L 1g motor will fall into a 1.8L car.




you can also get a banged up gst that got in a ass end accident and take everythign otu of that. figure you can get the gst cheap if it was wrecked and then you can take everythign from it and drop it in. itll save you some money then youll have a gst instead of the 1.8L



look at those mounting positions and see if there the same body. if the mounting positions are there your good to go. let us know what you find out

Well, I know that the trannys are the same (execpt for the AWD models) cause the hole reason I have the laser is cause my Eclipse's tranny was screwed up and the guy gave me the laser for free. At that time I wanted to put the 2.0L in my Eclipse but I couldn't figure out how.

Its dark now but when I wake up I'll compare the engine compartments (I think they are the same but the ECU will suck to change but like I say time isn't a problem but I'd like to have it up and running ~June next year)

if you have a problem gettin the ecu harness out i have oen sittin here next to me allready out of the car. its complete. the ecu should be hard to change itself but gettin the harness out is bi***.

the motor drop in if the 2 compartments are indeed the same shoudl be easy as pie. then the tranny isnt hard, just make sure someone is helpin you line it up and all. ut helps, trust me
