So the shop that replaced my turbo said they found a significant amount of oil in places where they should be, which I forgot. I remember though him saying that it was in the exhaust and might of burned out the catalyst converter. They said to leave the car running a few minutes everyday but when I do it doesn't smoke at all. It only starts to smoke when I drive it a few miles, then it smokes while idling. What I'd like to know is if idling it actually helps or should I just drive it. The engine's already been rebuilt and I replaced my old shot t-25 with a reuilt evo3 16g turbo.

What color is the smoke? Black, blue or white? I know you said burning oil which would be indicated by a blueish smoke color. But, just want to make sure first.

whats white smoke mean, i recently bought my tsi and when i hit on it and went to high rpms there was a cloud of white smoke behind me but then went away. rarely does it. not sure if im burning or its just cause the car was siting for awhile.

White smoke = burning coolant = "typically" head gasket issues. If its not a consistent cloud and only under hard acceleration then it's not fully blown yet... but should be checked out immediately. The have testing equipment for this so you don't have to actually pull the head to check.

If oil is getting in your exhaust I would suspect valve seals or something near the cylinder head. Do a compression/leakdown test to confirm.

Where are you feeding the turbo from oil filter housing or head. My 16g smoked bad when I tried to feed from ofh, once I changed to head it completely stopped and had been good for two years now. Just a thought bro.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 16g's are meant to be fed from the oil filter housing. Something to do with the difference in oil pressure between the OFH and cylinder head.

They are meant to be fed from the head if you are at stockish boost levels.

Well there is a difference in pressure but you really need to worry about flow. There is plenty oil flow from the head and the pressure is alittle lower than ofh. Most guys with big turbos boost 35-40 psi have no problems using the head location. I'm just saying ### I had similar problems and got mixed reviews on the correct location. I had my turbo ran from the ofh for like 10 min and it smoked bad. This was a fresh rebuilt turbo so I knew right away what the problem was. I switch to the head location and about 20 min driving around the oil burning and smoking stopped. Has been that way for about two years and I race the car boosting 25 psi with no problems at all.
