this is my first time removing/replacing a valve cover off a 420a engine.just to be sure i dont mess anything up can someone please give me a step by step or guide to take one off.even a web site that has detailed instructions would be helpfull...thanks guys.

1-Disconnect the negative cable off the battery.

2- Disconnect throttle cable

3- Remove air cleaner and hose.

4- Remove spark plug cable center and associated spark plug cables

5- Remove PVC hose and move all the cabling and electrical harnesses out of the way.

6- Disconnect vacuum brake booster hose.

7- Remove ignition coil.

8- Reroute any wires out of the way.

9-Loosen all six bolt and lift up. Remove the half round seal and the gasket from either the cover or from the surface of the head.

when putting on the head, use sealant around the parameter of new half round seal and a new head cover gasket. Before installing the cover, have all the flat surfaces of the head CLEAN from oil and any residue. It has to be clean, clean, CLEAN!! Otherwise, you'll have leaks like crazy if that surface isn't CLEAN!

Intall everything above in reverse order.

You tighten all six bolts evenly at 3 ft lbs when putting back on the cover.

Just don't overtorque those cover bolts when you put the cover back on, or you'll strip out the holes.

Good luck-DSM

You should replace the gaskets if you don't know when the last time they were changed out.
