Bought a used valve cover off ebay, and there was some rtv stuck on the valve cover, what kind I use to remove it?

I've dealt with this before. I don't have the patience that you guys have....an hour I spend scraping RTV from a valve cover could be spent rebuilding a turbo or two. Here's my solution:

- Find a flat container large enough for the valve cover to fit in it totally with the sealing edge down. We have an old wash tub out behind my shop which is what I use for this.

- Put enough gasoline in the container that the sealing lip of the valve cover will be completely submerged (only has to be 1/2" deep at the most).

- Leave the valve cover soak sealing edge down in the gasoline overnight. Be sure to store the container in a place that will be free of any ignition sources. Keep it away from electrical boxes, static electricity, or areas where smokers may toss their cigarette butts.

RTV and gasoline don't get along. By morning you should be able to wipe the sealant off effortlessly with a shop rag.
