I recently changed the valve cover gaskets on my dsm and when I was applying the bolts I heard a crack. I thought I cracked the valve cover but it turns out I cracked 2 bolts. Is there a easy way of removing the broken bolts?

Remove valve cover and if there is still thread exposed use a good set of vice grips to grab hold of the remaining bolt. If not as above drill and easy out.

Man, how poor of quality or condition must a 10mm bolt be to break at inch.lbs? I've torqued 10mm bolts to many ft.lbs without problem; the threads give way before the bolt itself does LOL

evo-gsr has the procedure you want to follow.

Advice when using anything more than a 1/4" drive rachet is to grab your rachet or wrench close to the head so you cant get much torque on it. But if you were using a inch pound torque wrench then you just had crappy bolts and crappy luck. You COULD preheat the area around the broken bolts with a very small torch like propane that doesn't get hot enough to hurt aluminum but would expand it. I feel for ya man, I hate extracting broken stuff and have had to come up with some off the wall ways to get them out.
