removing crankshaft

so i can not get my crankshaft all the was out the side with the water pump is the side im confused on everything it taken off just have 2 gears on the one side and the gear that runs the crank and obviously the crankshaft, how do i get that gear off to lift out the crank? the motor is from a 1992 gsx
 
sorry im new to this so heres a picture of the block upside down the gear in the middle is coneceted to the crankshaft and need to come off im pretty sure just dont know how

Use a wrench and block the crank from rotating by putting it between the balancing weights on the crankshaft and the block. Take a big breaker bar, 18" or bigger with a 1/2" drive, a 22mm impact socket, and put some serious force on it. My impact wrench wouldn't even get that bolt out, but a 20" breaker bar and my entire body weight busted it loose.
 
dang yea i tried breaking it lose ill try again though i just thought that i may be doing to wrong or somthing but back to trying that haha looks like ill get a better get a good long bar for some leverage.
 
Be sure to use at least a 1/2" drive... A friend of mine found out that you can fairly easily shatter a 3/8" drive socket and accidentally fling yourself face first into the block when it suddenly gives while you're shoving down on it with all your strength. He had a big bruise across his eyes and looked like he got punched in the face... We teased him mercilessly for a week for that. :tease:
 
Go get a big air gun with 900+ ft lbs torque and that sucker will come off in seconds. And it's WAY easier.

:hmm: Man, I wish I had one of those... I don't change many semi-truck tires though, so I don't think I could justify the purchase to my wife without being beaten with a meat tenderizer mallet. LOL I think the closest my wallet will allow me to one of those is a IR 650ft/lb gun. Those are pretty awesome too, especially since they are still the normal pistol grip type. :thumb:
 
IF you just use the starter method before pulling the engine than you will never have to struggle with these bolts.

We have an old craftsman 1/2 drive air gun that's 10+ years old. It's probably in the 400-500ft/lb range and I've never had problems with it handling the crank and flywheel bolts. And for the big nuts on the input shaft of the tranny I have a 3/4" pistol grip gun :D
