reman engine

i have found some but there a arm and leg. just going back with stock stuff just to get car running again. dont want a use motor because who knows what you are getting.

I know how you feel with the used engine. But, think about what it takes to put an engine together. All the clearances and time it takes on top of the parts. Maybe you can give it a shot yourself.

What is wrong with your current engine?

i had bought a reman engine from autozone, 3 year unlimited warranty. month after warranty runs out timing belt broke. we know what happen there. so i got a new head new pistons and even new crank, put if all together and put about 1000 miles on it and two of the pistion rings broke. tore my engine block up. local shop will bore sleeve and deck and put new pistons in for about $900. so now i just looking at all options.

They will sleeve the block for you? I would source the pistons myself if I were you. Have them measure the block to see if it is egg shaped or if it is still round and see what your limits are. Then buy your own piston and give it to the shop to bore it out to the piston specs. I'm sure if it was still oe spec you could find some pretty cheap 2G pistons to put in there.
Why are you going to get the block deacked if your on a budget?

Didn't know you needed to sleeve a solid iron block.

What pistons did you use when you put all this new stuff in?

I didnt know you had to sleeve and iron block either and as stated above I would probably get the pistons to and have the block bored to the pistons specs and as stated before if close enough to factory you could pick up some 2G pistons really cheap and the 2g piston 1g rod combo is really good

motor has been bored .20 already. would go more but i hear for everyday driving the motor will get hot. will be using top line pistons. yeah could get another block, but i can sleeve this one and be the same price as a engine block. i took my motor apart and seen the problem

As stated before. You can not sleeve the block, it is all iron.

Just make sure that all the tolerances are within spec. Have the machine shop measure the walls of your cylinders. Top, middle, and bottom. THEN have them do the same to the sides of the cylinder to make sure it is still round, even with your 3,000mi. Make sure everything is within spec. An engine build is a big deal, hence the steep price from supporting vendors.

Do you already have the topline pistons?

One more thing, you said you took it apart and you seen the problem. Is it a different problem than what you first stated or is it still the pistion rings?

Can you take a picture of the damage?

i wouldn't recommend going .060 over, because of the heat in a cylinders.running alot of boost, and making afr leaner could lead you to a crack cylinder walls. Had couple situations like that when i tore couple people blocks.....

Just wait a bit,the good deal might come up. When i had my 1g ,i was looking for a shortblock. because mines c-walked (yes 6 bolt can walk too).Oe guy at my local junkyard had it, so he sold me for 100 bucks. (6 bolt with 2g pistons). Was driving for a long time, it held 456 whp. :thumb: and i still have it in my 1g,which is parked in a backyard :p

Don't use ####ing topline pistons and you wont be blowing your ring lands to pieces.

Get some damn oem pistons from DSM Graveyard. You can get 2g pistons on 1g rods for like 500$. If you are not willing to spend 500$ on pistons+rods to get at least oem quality. Topline is like the shittiest shit you can buy. I would not even use a damn topline valve-cover gasket. I had a topline front case I had to get machined just fit OEM oil pump gears into.

knochgoon24 can you tell where to find a short block for around that price.piston rings scratched cylinder walls up .020 deep. and you can sleeve the block.

Craigslist. Junkyards. You can get a used bare (nothing in it) block for >100$. You should be able to find a motor with a snapped t-belt on a yard somewhere, and get just the block. Take the pistons and though those shits away. Get some 2g pistons. From DSM GY or a partout on here. Get your block and crank check out and machined as appropriate. You should be able to get your bare block full worked over for >150$. It costs me 6$ a cylinder for hone, or 10$ a cylinder for bore increase. 20$ for cleaning, 50$ for line hone (main caps). I usually then have it soda blasted and cleaned again (35$ total) And then I through on 2 medium coats of VHT High temp primer, and 3 light coats of VHT High Temp black. #### the clear coat because its a block. Just really dont like the rusted out look.

Then get your sell a shop manual, and some plastigage, and some sealed power mains and rod bearings.

You should be able to build a shortblock that is not gonna go to shit for about 700$ if you do it right. If you try and buy bottom dollar parts, and then do anything but run stock boost, stock turbo, stock fuel your gonna just blow it again.

You really must do your oil clearances to make sure everything is in spec. If you want to save money, read, read, read on how to rebuild an engine. Or, your gonna end up screwing yourself again.

If you can't be patient, research, and DIY. You can allways just grab a JDM six bolt on Ebay. They are usually unmodded, and low miles due the laws about what you can and can't do to a care in japan, and the fact that people in japan just don't drive as much as we do. Cars often times end up being pulled off the road at the end of the service life with >70k miles.

I am not exactly sure how the law works there, but it has something to due with age. You can't keep driving vehicles past a certain age. Its why you can find some many japanese vehicles being auctioned off for stupid low ammounts, but for export only.

have not got any pistons yet. i done my rebuild last time and went wrong somewhere. this is a dumb question, but will the 2g pistions be ok working with a 1g ecu. i have no fuel mod besides bigger pump. thanks for everybodys help

Going .060 won't cause any issues.

Using 2g pistons is a great idea because you will have a higher compression than the 1g pistons which give better off boost power. You will need to get modified 1g rods however and a couple vendors sell the 1g rods with 2g pistons already assembled.

Do you have any pictures of the damage with the cylinder and the pistons?
